From its inception in 1989, Teeple Architects Inc. has built a reputation for innovative design and exceptional service. The firm established this reputation through a broad range of institutional, commercial and residential projects including community and recreation centres, libraries, schools and university buildings. The firm has become known for designing projects of exceptional material and spatial quality, with a strong conceptual basis derived from the specific needs and aspirations of each client.
The goal of Teeple Architects is to create innovative design projects in which the architectural concept is intimately linked to the day-to-day use and inhabitation of the building. An ability to respond creatively to the dictates of the site, context, budget and client requirements has characterized the work of the office. In this era of specialization, the firm believes in the continuing value of the general architectural practice and to this end, has pursued work in the commercial, institutional and residential fields, ranging in scope from broad planning, major institutional projects, urban design studies to highly detailed interiors.
The firm believes in an ongoing commitment to a high level of caring, diligent architectural services must be combined with innovative, creative design abilities to achieve true design excellence. Careful consideration of the concerns which are most critical to the client leads to buildings which are efficient to operate and a pleasure to use. Successful architecture results from dedication to the entire design and construction process. To this end, at each stage of the process, we seek to ensure that the detailed concerns of the client and user are fully incorporated into the building.
Themes that have been explored through the ongoing work of the firm include architecture as site, the space of landscape, diverse space and translucent space. These themes have been expressed through subtle compositions of material and texture, and careful articulation to detail. This body of work has been conceived in critical relation to the language of modernism in an attempt to extend and further enrich its expressive force.
The firms dedicated and experienced team of twenty includes three senior associates, who manage each project undertaken by the firm. They are supported by an adept and skilled staff composed of licensed architects, CAD technologists, technical and support staff, and student interns. Stephen Teeple, Principal of the firm, has over twenty years experience in all aspects of architectural practice, on a diverse array of residential, commercial, recreational and institutional projects. He provides personalized attention to each project executed from the firm.

Cost Control Our team has an excellent track record of producing buildings on budget, within tight time frames. From the initial concepts through to design development, we will provide cost planning services through working with a cost consultant as required. Our team will work closely with you to maintain project costs throughout the design, design development and contract document stages of the project. Starting with the programme and throughout the project, we will provide cost planning and cost control services in order to establish a project budget by the Board. We will review project costs and prepare a cost plan for review with the client. These cost plans are used to summarize building elements that can be added or removed to meet the construction budget exactly. Through this cost plan method, we have successfully achieved great value for our clients, on all our previous projects.
Schedule Control Our team has a strong reputation for delivering design excellence within the constraints of a highly restrictive schedule. This has been achieved through commitment and diligent schedule control. We coordinate drawing reviews, with each budget submission. In this manner, the client is aware of the progress of the documents for all members of the consultant team throughout all phases of the work. Progress can be constantly monitored such that all consultants maintain the project schedule.
We have earned an enviable reputation with our record of schedule control. Most projects have been completed at or below budget; all have been completed very close to the targeted dates, many using fast-track systems to achieve dates not otherwise attainable.
Digital Capabilities Our team uses web-based project management software throughout the entire design/build process. Each project-specific site allows open communication between the various team members;
owners (including user groups), consultants, local municipal authourities, quantity surveyors, and project and construction managers. All files are maintained on the site, including all current drawings and other documents. All project material is automatically backed-up each night, and a system of passwords is used to ensure the security of the site.
Our team provides integrated visual and virtual power between the digital interface of the latest AutoCAD Release 2002, utilized during all phases of project development including working drawings, while simultaneously developing 3-dimensional wire-frames, virtual walk-throughs, and solid and rendered models with 3-D Studio Max/Viz and Adobe Photoshop for full project development. We have a complete and functional UTP Category 5 Network with bandwidth versatility to digitally transfer data information between Client, Consultants and User.
Effective digital communication strategies are deployed through our completely secure IBM Server with a Microsofts Windows NT 4.0 operating system equipped with RAID technology and multiple gigabyte backup capacity and archiving. Enhancements of the digital information array include external communication formats such as facsimile, email, Zip disk transfer, and CD writing available to all workstations along the digital backbone. Complementing these efficiencies are high-speed large format colour and blackline output devices and a networked state-of-the- art large format copier/ facsimile and laser printer.
We currently implement the lastest software, Microsoft Office 2000, Microsoft Project 2000 and project budgeting programs to manage, schedule and track all aspects of design, production, and construction of all our projects. Our in-house standards for filing and CAD production match those set forth by the Ontario Association of Architects, for efficient coordination throughout the project team.
Our teams drawings have been featured in many competitions as well as used as a teaching tool for post-secondary institutions (TUNS, Dalhousie University). Currently Eglinton Spectrum Public School and Birkdale Childcare Centre are featured on the Architectural Record website, illustrating photos, drawings, specifications, descriptions and design solutions (see website address http: //www. archrecord. com.)
