Talkie Tooter Canada Ltd.
Incorporated in 1973, Talkie Tooter Canada Ltd. is the largest
designer, developer and manufacturer of radio communications
systems for the timber harvesting industry in Canada. Our plant
occupies 10,000 square feet encompassing design, manufacturing,
sales and service. We presently have distributors/dealers in New
Zealand, Australia, Chile and the USA.
Our Portable Radios are designed specifically for heavy industrial applications. These portable radios provide clear and reliable two-way radio communications. Our in-house, thermo-forming machine produces the rugged waterproof 'Kydex' enclosures and the speaker/microphones are assembled in a durable polyurethane housing. All design, assembly and testing is done at our facility giving us the ability to adapt quickly to market demands.
The Talkie Tooter Radiowhistle System has become the industry
standard for safe, efficient signalling for logging, cable, yarding or tower operations. Our Patented 'Safety-Tone' TM system prevents accidental cross-signalling. Solid state electronics and rechargeable NIMH batteries are housed in an aluminum extrusion covered by a rubber boot. The Talkie Tooter 2D receiver is housed in a waterproof rugged metal enclosure and plug-in circuit boards are shock mounted to provide many years of reliable service.

Telecommunications Equipment
Talkie Tooter Canada is the largest designer, developer and
manufacturer of radio communications systems for the timber
harvesting industry in Canada. Systems include: Radiowhistle
systems for cable yarding; Grapple Radio systems for grapple
yarding; Carriage Radio Systems for skyline logging; Two-way
Portable Radio systems for logging and Industrial applications
and the Radio Remote Firing Device for the detonation of
explosives.
Radiowhistle System
The Talkie Tooter Radiowhistle System has become industry
standard for safe, efficient signaling for logging, cable yarding
or tower operations. Our Patented 'Safety-Tone' (TM) system
prevents accidental cross signaling.
The Talkie Tooter 3BC transmitter is activated with two switches
for safety: (1) mercury switch controlled by tipping the
transmitter and (2) magnetic switch controlled by squeezing the
spring attached under the antenna. Solid state electronics and
rechargeable NIMH batteries are housed in an aluminum extrusion
covered by a rubber boot.
The Talkie Tooter 2D receiver is housed in a waterproof rugged
metal enclosure. The plug in circuit boards are shock mounted to
provide many years of reliable service. A built in voltage
converter allows the base to be connected to either 12 or 24 volt
yarding machines.
The Radiowhistle System can also be used for remote control
applications requiring single function control. The portable
transmitter will operate up to one kilometer under most
industrial conditions.
Industrial Portable Radios
The Talkie Tooter Industrial Portable Radios are designed
specifically for heavy industrial applications. These portable
radios provide clear and reliable two-way radio communications.
Housed in rugged waterproof Kydex enclosures they will provide
many years of trouble free operation under the worst of
conditions.
The speaker/microphones are made of durable polyurethane.
Internal nicad batteries provide enough power for a 10 hour
shift. The transceivers are programmable to ensure fast turn
around when frequencies must be changed. They are available in
six channel models in either VHF or UHF with power levels from .5 watt to 5 watt.
The portables are equipped with two push-button switches. One is
used to turn the tone squelch off for channel monitoring and the
other can be used as an alternate push to talk switch.
These portable radios meet all required FCC, Industry Canada
and New Zealand standards and are the ultimate for industrial
applications.
Grapple Radio System
The UHF7 Grapple Radio System is designed specifically for
grapple yarding operations. This system provides clear and
reliable two-way radio communication as well as whistle control
for the yarder horn. The base and portable transceivers meet all
WCB and IC standards for grapple yarding operations.
Radio Controlled Carriage System
The Talkie Tooter carriage control system can increase
productivity with safety, of employees who move logs with a
motorized carriage. The Talkie Tooter carriage radio remotely
controls the functions of the skycar. Functions commonly
utilized by carriages include combination of the following: up
and down at various speeds, stop, start, kill engine, set and
release brake, set and release clamp. The carriage receiver may
be operated by any member of the crew who may be equipped with
belt-mounted Talkie Tooter transmitter, and possibly by the
yarder operator via a transmitter mounted in the cab. There are
certain functions which cannot be activated until other
safeguards are met, i.e. set clamp then release brake, preventing
accidents. All functions are initiated with 2 pushbuttons on the
transmitter.
Remote Firing Device
The 1664 Synthesized Remote Firing Device is an intelligent and
discrete 2-way VHF or UHF radio controlled detonation system. The
radio signal is digitally encoded (addressed). The receiver is
encoded with the same address. The latest microprocessor and
message encoding/validation technology has been combined to
provide a SAFE, RELIABLE, ACCURATE AND COMPACT Remote Firing
Device.
The 1664 Synthesized Remote Firing Device has the capability to
initiate non-electric shock tube as well as up to 10 standard
blasting caps wired in series. The system can be used repeatedly
throughout an operation and will give 'answer back' or confirming
status of the receiver at a distance up to 1 mile. At distances
of more than 1 mile and less than 5 miles, the command will be
executed; assuming the receiver is within range. The receiver can
be held in the standby mode for 7+ hours and still maintain the
energy to initiate shock tube or blasting caps.
The 1664 Synthesized Remote Firing Device includes redundant
internal safety circuitry and a timed automatic disarming
feature. If the receiver does not receive a properly addressed
firing signal within 2 minutes of being armed, the system
automatically returns to the disarmed state. The transmitter and
receiver are packaged in separate heavy duty, waterproof cases.
For handling and transporting to the work site, the receiver is
nested in the transmitter case. The receiver includes a handy
accessory pouch mounted in the lid. The cases provide shock and
environmental protection to the system while being used. Tests
included multiple drops of over 10 feet onto concrete and water
submersion.
