T.V. Ontario
Since 1970, TVOntario has been producing, broadcasting, and
distributing high quality educational programming.
As the province's public educational broadcaster it operates two
distinct networks, the English language TVO and the French
language TFO (formerly la Chaine which will celebrate its 10th
anniversary in 1997).
TVOntario receives 83% of its budget from the provincial
government and generates the other 17% program sales, public
membership, corporate underwriting and merchandise sales. It is
committed to increasing self-generated revenues to a 50-50% ratio
over the next few years.
TVOntario produces, co-produces, acquires and broadcasts award
winning children's and curriculum programming, informative
credit and non-credit courses and provocative arts, science and
public affairs programming. 70% of each network's schedule is
dedicated to children's and educational television. To
complement its on-air educational programming, TFO's very
dynamic team of educators crisscrosses the province to teach
French language teachers in the classroom use of its school
programs. TFO is Canada's only French language television
network producing and broadcasting outside Quebec.
Since 1993 TVOntario has been involved in New Media, at first
with a community-based bulletin board service and more recently
with a presence on the World Wide Web as well as the development
of curriculum based New Media products.

Tvontario Website
TVOntario's World Wide Web service links among others -
TVOntario fans and Ontario's educational community to the
province's public broadcaster.
The web page and TVO Online, a FirstClass bulletin board service,
enable the public to check TVO's daily program schedules, chat
with producers of their favorite programs, take a virtual tour of
TVO's broadcasting studios and meet TVO stars like Joe Motiki of
TVO kids, cyberchat with other TVO viewers, and sign up to become
TVOntario members.
TVO Online allows educators to stay on top of current educational
issues and share information and experience with each other.
Tvo Online/Culture Net
TVO Online is a FirstClass bulletin board that provides users
with information about TVOntario programming, access to community
conferences and beginning April 1st, this board will be linked
with CultureNet, based in Calgary.
This combined service will enable artists and cultural workers to
collaborate with each other and keep up with nationwide
developments in their industry through workshop and job
announcements, electronic newsletters, and 'online meetings',
without the expense of an Internet connection.
Curriculine
Curriculine is TVOntario's curriculum database that is available
on the World Wide Web.
This online database allows educators from all over the province
to access TVO's collection of curriculum based video resources.
This cyber-service is already making it easier for educators to
plan their day to day lessons in order to better achieve the
outcomes of Ontario's Common Curriculum.
CurricuLine is part of Education TVOntario, an expanding area on
TVOntario's Web site which also features links to TVO's
Professional Development Television (PDTV).
PDTV provides convenient professional development programs for
busy teachers.
French language teachers can use the new internet link to access
PSL, a professional development resource designed for them.
