SunWest Food Laboratory Ltd., was founded in 1995 as an
independent analytical laboratory serving the scientific and
technical needs of he Agri-Food Industry. SunWest Laboratory is
located in one of Canada's largest internationally recognized
Research Parks - Innovation Place in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
SunWest Food Laboratory provides professional customer service
in the areas of Nutritional Analysis & Labelling for Canadian and
US Labels, Grain, Seed, and Oil Analysis and Certificates for
Export, Research & Product Development and Quality Assurance
Services.
Memberships are held in the following professional
associations :
Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technologists (CIFST),
Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), the American Oil
Chemist's Society (AOCS), American Association of Cereal
Chemists (AACC), and the Saskatchewan Food Processors Association
(SFPA).
SunWest Laboratory is certified by the Canadian Grain Commission
for Canola Testing and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA)
for Erucic Acid in Canola and routinely participates in check
sample programs.
Analysis is conducted on a fee for service basis and client
information is held in strict confidence.

Nutrition Analysis
Grain And Oilseed Testing
Grain and Oilseed Testing - SunWest laboratory analyses grain
for moisture, protein and falling number of domestic and export
markets. Oil contents, proteins, fatty acid profiles and
glucosinolates are conducted on canola and rapeseed. As well
testing is performed on other specialty oilseeds including
mustard,borage, flax, linola, caraway, and coriander. Other
specialty tests include chlorophyll, peroxide value, free fatty
acids and volatile oil contents.
Oil Analysis
Oil Analysis - Oil and lipid analysis capabilities include fatty
acid profiles, free fatty acids, peroxide values, melting
points, rancimat, oil stability, shelf life studies,
cholesterol, color, volatile oil, iodine values, unsaponifiables.

formulation, product optimization, product improvements, sensory
evaluation, shelf life studies, ingredient testing.

seed breeding programs. Individualized tests including acidity,
anthocyanins , ash, bulk density, brix, farinograph, dietary,
fibre, feed analysis, gluten content, particle size, peroxidase,
pH, protein, moisture, fat, ash, carbohydrate, total dietary
fibre, soda, specific gravities, sugars, starches, vitamins and
minerals.
