We are a research and development laboratory operating in a university teaching hospital. We conduct basic research that is funded by government research agencies. However, we also perform a significant amount of contract research for industry and we have a track record of developing and transferring to the marketplace innovative products to assist the population of elderly and disabled people.
Industries come to us to license new products that have been developed within our laboratories or to seek assistance in developing or improving their own products. We have also provided clinical evaluation services.
We are unusual because our work extends from very fundamental research through to supporting the marketing efforts of companies that have licensed our products. We have experience with organizing trade shows, trade show presentations and with other selling efforts in the United States, Japan and Europe.
Our basic research is focused primarily on balance control and the prevention of falls in the elderly population and on understanding and treating dementia and strokes. Our products include bathtub, toileting aids, grad bars, walking aids, powered wheelchairs, patient lifting and moving systems, infection control devices and electronic monitoring systems.
