Products

  • Construction Of An Interceptor Sewer And A Primary Sewage Treatment Plant.

An interceptor sewer is a gravity flow collection pipe that intercepts and transports sewage from individual outfalls to the treatment plant. Pumping stations are used to lift sewage at appropriate locations to avoid deep trench or tunnel excavation. The treatment plant contains screening and comminution for solids, sedimentation tanks, sludge digestion with methane gas production and composted sludge and disinfection of effluent.

The result is an improvement in harbour water quality of over 80%, therefor allowing the reopening of areas for fishing and shellfish harvesting.

  • Removal Of Storm Water From Sanitary Sewage System And Construction Of A New Treatment System With Tertiary Treatment

Beasy Nicoll Engineering Limited provides a system for storm water treatment from sanitary sewage systems that achieves an effluent quality equal or better than the receiving stream.

Storm water remediation consists of the removal of storm water (roof drains, catchbasins, etc.) connections from the sanitary sewers and creating direct discharge into adjacent streams. For small receiving streams where water flow and thus dilution in not possible, tertiary treatment plants are employed. This treatment consists of tanks of lagoons with screening, comminution, aeration, sludge digestion, sand filtration to remove phosphates and nitrates, and disinfection by ultra-violet radiation.

Advantages include elimination of small stream pollution with respect to overloading by contaminated wastewater and phosphate and nitrate impact.

  • Storm Water Management/Control Through The Use Of Impounding Reservoirs.

As a result of urban development, storm water runoff causes erosion of valleys, siltation of lakes and various other impacts on sensitive lake systems. Beasy Nicoll Engineering Limited employs a unique scheme of underground storage to manage and control storm water runoff, thus maintaining the availability of the overlying land for other uses. This scheme utilizing impounding reservoirs is limited to areas not more than 250 ha. (approximately 500 acres) on a steep sided topography, with ravines and other small valleys in rocky terrain.

Use of valleys for storm water storage is achieved by the construction of small earth dams. Behind the dams, the storage area is filled with large broken rock or boulders which create large void spaces suitable for water storage. A pipe control facility allows the impounded storm water to trickle out at a low flow rate which will not impact the receiving lake. The earth dams can also be used as the foundations for a roadway base in the development area. The rock filled areas can be covered over and landscaped for park land, other recreational uses, or industrial storage areas.

This type of storm water management allows for the development of steep slopes without adversely affecting receiving lakes, rivers, etc. Furthermore, the land does not get sterilized, thus preventing alternative uses, as is the case in open storm water storage reservoirs.
