Success Stories:

RoboSep For StemCell Technologies

RoboSep is the first instrument to offer true walk-away automation of magnetic cell separation. Using column-free EasySep technology to isolate cells by either positive or negative selection, RoboSep can label and separate up to 4 samples at one time. RoboSep is easily controlled via a color touch screen. The intuitive graphical user interface makes it simple and fast to set up your cell separation protocols. The user simply selects the desired pre-optimized protocols and loads the cell samples and the appropriate reagent onto the instruments. RoboSep then performs all the steps necessary to magnetically label and separate the samples, without human intervention or supervision. The instrument handles the samples using disposable tips, eliminating cross-contamination. RoboSep fits in a standard bio-containment hood for sterile operation.

Customer Quote 'We have found the StarFish group responsive, competent and creative in dealing with the complex issues surrounding our project. Their follow-up and attention to detail are fully appreciated as the relationship continues to build over time.'

The background After initial design work was completed StarFish was recruited to finish and refine the instrument to it's final specifications. We were pleased to find a Canadian company within reasonable proximity to our facility. The fact that they were already manufacturing medical products was a definite plus.

Challenges Transferring design specifications and software requirements in a changing landscape of product definitions required significant cooperation amongst the teams. The technical confluence of divergent expertise was difficult and constantly presented challenges for our companies. We also had a deadline to meet since we were already going to market with the product.

Approach StarFish put it's resources into high gear working out the solutions for the issues at hand. Their team worked weekends and holidays to meet our deadlines when needed. They made available to us the technical expertise we needed and have developed a team with core competency and expertise on our finished product. They actively pursue input as to how we could be better served.

Result 'We have had one of the most successful product launches in our history resulting in significant numbers to our top line while adding a large percentage gain in our market share. RoboSep in the customer's laboratory has been an incredibly reliable instrument with virtually no mechanical related problems. The RoboSep is truly a workhorse for cell separation.' Paul Georgantas Sr. VP, StemCell Technologies
