SpaceBridge Semiconductor
SpaceBridge began operations in 1997 and has focused solely on
the development of advanced silicon solutions for broadband
wireless access systems regardless of whether they are used in
terrestrial or satellite networks. These solutions will be a
tremendous benefit to businesses and consumers who need
affordable broadband communications, but do not have access to
conventional hard-wired (fiber-optic and copper) systems.
SpaceBridge products help address one of the greatest challenges
in this market: efficient and cost-effective access for both
ground and satellite-based communications systems. The company
is currently developing high-speed modem chipsets capable of
transmitting data at rates of up to 155 megabytes per second
(Mbps) a hundred times faster than the fastest cable modem.

Products
Sb7015 Broadband Wireless Digital Modem
Sb7040 Digital Radio Transmitter
The SB7040 provides a self-contained, highly integrated baseband-
to-IF IC solution. Targeted for general narrowband and broadband
wireless transmission applications, the SB7040 design is
optimized for broadband access radio products, including high-
speed DACs, VCO and mixers. This chip is designed in silicon
germanium technology and is housed in a 64-pin TQFP package.
High level of integration - for reduced product cost/size,
increased reliability and faster time to market.
Sophisticated functionality - for a complete broadband wireless
link solution when combined with the SB7041 Digital Radio
Receiver and a member of the SB701x Digital Modem portfolio
Sb7041 Digital Radio Receiver
The SB7041 provides a self-contained, highly integrated IF-to-
baseband demodulator IC solution. Targeted for general
narrowband and broadband wireless receiver applications, the
SB7041 design is optimized for broadband access radio products,
incorporating high-speed ADCs, VCOs and mixers. This chip is
implemented in silicon germanium technology and is housed in a
64-pin TQFP package.

Sophisticated functionality - for a complete broadband wireless
link solution when combined with the SB7040 Transmitter and a
member of the Digital Modem portfolio.
Sb2100cb Broadband Wireless Access Module
The SB2100CB is a flexible and programmable broadband wireless
access circuit module designed to perform the majority of signal
conversion functions from IF to Ethernet in a subscriber indoor
unit (IDU). An embedded processor runs the required protocols,
maintenance, command and control functions to produce a
broadband wireless access terminal. The module plugs into an OEM
carrier platform which provides the supplementary functions
required to complete the IDU design.
The module can be packaged with MAC software (for example, DVB
RCS) and terminal software available separately from the
factory. The module can also support proprietary air interfaces
operating under custom-developed MAC software, if required.
Dvb-rcs Cpe Software
SpaceBridge has developed a software framework for wireless
access terminals. The framework enables the deployment of an
access terminal's core functions across different hardware
platforms, with room for feature customization and
differentiation.
The software is available on a modular basis to meet customer
requirements and deliver the desired functionality. Modules
range from specific interface support to a completely integrated
system.
The DVB-RCS CPE software resides on the SB2100CB Broadband
Wireless Access Module and uses the VxWorks real time operating
system. The CPE software offers the following features:
- Packet Forwarding Services between the Ethernet Network
Interface (connecting to the CPE) and the Wireless Network
Iterface (connecting to the air link)
- Wireless Media Access Control (MAC) to carry out network
access requirements, bandwidth request mechanisms and link
configuration
- Remote Configurability through an SNMP manager, web-based HTTP
browser or Command Line Interface
- Modular Software Architecture: the wireless and network
interfaces can be altered to support other wireless protocols
(i.e. DOCSIS, 802.16, proprietary SatCom)
Dvb-rcs Mac Software
SpaceBridge has developed a software framework for wireless
access terminals. The framework enables the deployment of an
access terminal's core functions across different hardware
platforms, with room for feature customization and
differentiation.
The software is available on a modular basis to meet customer
requirements and deliver the desired functionality.
The DVB-RCS MAC software works in conjunction with the
SpaceBridge SB7000-series of broadband wireless modem products
in supporting the DVB RCS terminal MAC layer functionalities.
The DVB RCS MAC software is layered between the terminal
applications software (above) and the modem driver software
(below).
The MAC software is responsible for managing the wireless link
characteristics and utilization. The DVB RCS MAC software
carries out the following functions:
- Supports MAC protocols specific to DVB RCS terminals
- DAMA
- Bandwidth on Demand
- Quality of Service (QoS) assignment functions
