Solmax International Inc.

Varennes, QC

Company Overview

Since his foundation in 1981, Solmax International, offers its clients a complete range of high-quality products and services pertaining to the realization of geosynthetic containment systems (domestic, hazardous or industrial waste burial sites, retention ponds and heap leaching pad), from manufacturing in the plant to installation on the construction site.

The Solmax International plant is located in Varennes, Province of Quebec, Canada. The plant houses a state-of-the-art three layers film blown extruder producing all common types of polyethylene geomembrane in 6, 7 m wide rolls with thicknesses ranging from 0, 5 to 2, 5 mm. Solmax International processes various types of resins including high density polyethylene (HDPE) and other polyethylene configurations such as Very Flexible Polyethylene (VFPE). All of these resins can be used to manufacture geomembrane with smooth surfaces or with texture on one or both sides in order to improve friction properties.

Solmax International has also developed its own dielectric heat sealing system in order to pre-assemble in the plant flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC) geomembrane sheets used in lagoons, ponds, tanks or reservoirs. This operation, carried out under controlled conditions, makes possible the delivery to the construction site of large PVC geomembrane panels. As a result, the number of seams to be effected on site is considerably reduced, thereby accelerating and enhancing the overall sealing process during the construction project.

Technology Profile:

Solmax manufacturing plant is located in Varennes, Province of Quebec, Canada. The plant houses a state-of-the-art three-layer blown film extruder producing all types of polyethylene geomembrane in 22 feet (6.7 m) wide rolls with thicknesses ranging from 20 to 100 mil (0.50 to 2.50 mm). Solmax processes various types of resins including High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and other polyethylene configurations such as Very Flexible Polyethylene (VFPE). All of these resins can be used to manufacture geomembranes with smooth surfaces or with textured on one or both sides in order to improve friction properties of the geomembrane when in contact with an other material. Also Solmax has production units permitting the fabrication of PVC geomembrane panels using a dielectric process, the industry's most reliable panel assembly technology, in a controlled factory environment.

Products

  • Environmental Products And Services
  • Fourniture Et Installation De Gomembranes Et Autres Gosynthtiques Pour Tancher Des Bassins De Retenus De Lixiviats Ou Autres Produits Liquides.

  • Installation Of Impermeable Polyethylene Geomembranes.

    Geomembranes (synthetic membranes with low permeability) come in two categories. The first is high-density polyethylene (PeHD) geomembranes. The second consists of very flexible polyethylene (VFPE) geomembranes made of low-density polyethylene resin. The latter category can be subdivided into three groups: low-density (LDPE), very low density (LLDPE) and coextruded. PeHD is distinguished by its high specific gravity and its very long polymer chains. This is what gives geomembranes made from it their characteristic high resistance to a wide range of corrosive chemicals and other weathering agents such as exposure to ultraviolet rays and low temperatures. It is also responsible for PeHD's remarkable mechanical properties. The material's integrity should be ensured by strict adherence to the necessary on-site installation procedures. LDPE possesses the same characteristics as the preceding category but it also has more flexibility. For applications where there is considerable unequal settlement (resulting in it being covered with cells), this type of geomembrane, with its high degree of flexibility, solves the problem satisfactorily.

    Their inherent properties and varying densities and thicknesses have made Solmax produced and installed geomembranes the membranes of choice in civil engineering, geotechnic and environmental engineering projects, and for applications such as the following:

    landfill sites for domestic, industrial and hazardous waste (see photo);

    leaching platforms and lagoons for mine tailings (see photo);

    contaminated ground treatment areas;

    retention ponds for oil products;

    reservoirs for drinking or waste water;

    dikes, dams, tunnel;

    conduit linings;

    aquaculture;

    other retainment works.

  • Pe Sheet, High Density /Over.01 In Thick/
  • Plastic Film And Sheet Nes

    Polyethylene sheet produced with high or linear low density resin in thicknesses ranging from.02 to.25 inche (0.50 to 2.50 mm) and in width up to 22 feet (6.7 m).

  • Polyethylene Geomembrane (hdpe, Lldpe)

    Polyethylene geomembrane (HDPE and LLDPE) manufactured in 22 feet (6.7 m) wide roll with thicknesses ranging from 20 to 100 mil (0.50 to 2.50 mm). The polyethylene geomembranes manufactured by Solmax can be made with smooth surfaces or with textured on one or both sides in order to improve friction properties.

  • Supply And Installation Of Geomembranes And Other Geosynthetic Products To Prevent Contaminated Wastes Or Soils From Leaking Out Of Landfills.

    In order to ensure that confinement structures remain impermeable, the designer uses a combination of different geosynthetic products such as geomembranes, geotextiles and drainage geonets to control leakage rates. The goal is to prevent the uncontrolled release of pollutants to the environment. Once the design has been completed, Solmax International can call on its network of approved installers to provide and install all geosynthetic products needed for the project.
