The plan encompasses the following objectives:. Target a 100 % collection rate by the year 2000. Establish the necessary infrastrucures and programmes. Encourage waste reduction, reuse, and recycling. Ensure environmental and public health protection. Involve public participation and input. Ensure local economic development. Encourage the participation of the private sector. Guarantee current levels of employment and seek new job opportunities. Ensure gender equality by involving women in proposed programmes. Seek long-term economic profitability of the waste management system. Ensure the economic viability of Urenco's operations

The plan includes measures for waste reduction and reuse, for selective waste collection, for waste reuse, and for the segregation of hazardous and infectious wastes. Improvements to the collection, handling and disposal aspects of waste management are also proposed. The total cost of the proposals is estimated at $ 60 million USD, over 15 years. BIOTERRE is an in-situ technology for hard-to-access hydrocarbon contaminants, while HAPPS is a mobile unit-based technique for removing HAP contaminants. Montreal's Centre of Excellence in Brownfields Remediation has chosen HAPPS for it's technology showcasing programme.

  • Urban Solid Waste Management

Our waste management experts provide planning and operational assistance in all areas of intergarted waste management:

composting, aerobic and anaerobic digestion, waste-to-energy, landfilling, recycling, reuse, hazwaste, biomed waste. Industrial pollution control is also a key element in our urban waste management strategy.

Products

  • Environmental Products And Services
  • Full Process Evaluation, Characterisation And Engineered Solution.

Recognising that VOC emissions control requires a logical and systematic approach, Sodexen's experts start with a data acquisitions phase including complete process emissions testing. This generally involves site sampling and mass balance calculations, as well as lab analyses and dispersion modelling. Working in conjunction with regulatory criteria, Sodexen then analyses process parameters that may be modified to reduce VOC emissions. Once this has been optimized, engineered solutions are investigated: carbon treatment, thermal and catalytic destruction, wet processes, filtration, scrubbers etc. Full regulatory interfacing is guaranteed at all phases of project execution.

  • Integrated Waste Management Solutions Reduce Landfill Waste By Over 60%.

Sodexen's waste management specialists can assist municipal environmental managers to design, implement and deliver IWM (integrated waste management) solutions including: source and curb-side waste segregation, organic composting, sorting station design, glass/metal/paper recovery and recycling facilities, waste-to-energy plants, modern landfill design, biogas recovery, and ash management programmes. Geared especially to rapidly-expanding metropolitan areas, Sodexen's specialists offer access to a wide array of Canadian technologies and products.

  • On-site Biodegradation Of Contaminants Using Happs Process.

Sodexen's HAPPS process uses our own consortia of micro-organisms, stimulated by enzymes and additives, to achieve 90%+ reduction rates of tough-to-degrade in less than 3 weeks. Modular units of 10 tonnes/day are used in conjunction with remote process monitoring and control, resulting in fast, cost-effective site clean-up operations. Minimal site encumbrances allow the client continued and unobstructed use of the site during rehabilitation activities. HAPPS is the result of three years intensive R&D, followed by a site run at Montreal's MCBER demonstration platform.
