In addition to conventional treatment, a microstrainer is used to remove algae. Ozonation is employed to reduce the treated water triholomethanes and to reduce taste and odour compounds. As well, granular activated carbon contractors are used for the same purpose.
The total system includes: Raw water screening; low lift pumping; microstraining, coagulation/flocculation; sedimentation; ozonation; dual media filtration; granular activate carbon filtration; chlorination; high lift pumping and fluoridation.
All the wastewater produced by the plant is treated on site, with off site sludge disposal.
This treatment was successfully used in the South Sidney Water Treatment Plant, which implemented microstraining, ozonation and granular activated carbon to limit bad taste and odours in treated water.
When a metering system is used for custody transfer or billing purposes, flows that are too low result in lost revenue, while flows that are too high result in customer dissatisfaction. Chemical feed systems for process or discharge treatment are usually paced to flow. Inaccuracies cause ineffective treatment or higher costs. Flow metering is also used for planning purposes, such as whether to expand a treatment or pumping facility. Inaccurate data will result in earlier capital investments or late construction of needed facilities.
The solution to this problem is three-fold. A field investigation determines the true accuracy to the flow metering installation, and identifies potential sources of inaccuracy. Changes to equipment, installation arrangements, and preventive maintenance procedures follow to rectify the problem. A post-correction accuracy verification and maintenance training complete the program.
Professionally trained personnel are provided, with specialized equipment and the experience to undertake independent flow calibration for liquid metering systems. Investigations with over 200 flow meters ranging from 3' to 96' diameter showed that accuracy was within 2% in less than 20% of installations. Almost half the tested installations had accuracies worse than 5%, some in excess of 40%.
Even if a customer's metering system is properly designed, installed, calibrated, and maintained, and examination by independent specialists can confirm and document the operation of the metering system.
Sludge storage facility to hold sludge during this time frame (approx. 6 months).
Currently the total volume of sludge storage is 666, 000 m3. Storage was accomplished through the construction for 8-8250 m3 storage tanks with concrete walls and high density polyethylene membrane floors and floating covers.
Following winter storage, the tank contents are mixed to re-suspend solids prior to the tanks being pumped empty. This is accomplished trough the use of five 20 HP mixers per tank, and a single 20 HP submersible pump.
