Emission inventories, whether obtained through stack sampling or estimates, provide a clear understanding of contaminant emissions from industrial facilities or power plants. In conjunction with advanced air quality modelling techniques, it is possible to estimate impacts related to these emissions. For proposed facilities, this technique can assist in predicting future impacts while helping to specify mitigation requirements. It also provides a cost-effective technique for assessing air pollution control requirements. Modelling and impact assessment are often required for regulatory approvals. For existing facilities, predictive techniques and impacts can be confirmed and quantified by stack sampling or ambient air monitoring. SNC-Lavalin Environment has the capabilities and expertise to undertake all aspects of air quality assessments. They have performed these assessments for numerous sectors including: pulp and paper mills, aluminum smelters, automotive parts manufacturing, chemical production facilities, electronic manufacturing, mining operations, sewage treatment plants, fossil fuel power plants, cogeneration facilities, landfills, municipal solid waste incinerators and, biomedical waste incinerators.
Full environmental assessment provides detailed knowledge of social, environmental, risk and health impacts. Assessment provides detailed review of impacts, mitigation, and monitoring requirements and is often a requirement for project funding and regulatory approval. SNC-Lavalin provides an in-house multi-disciplinary team capable of managing all aspects of impact assessment including baseline studies, public consultation, regulatory negotiations, multi-media modelling and assessment, and post-construction monitoring in all media. Their experienced and diverse team offers cost-effective results. SNC-Lavalin has world-wide experience which has been applied to pulp and paper mills, landfills, waste management facilities, industrial plants, power generation, nuclear facilities, etc.
Often site clean ups and remediation are complicated by the multi-disciplinary nature of these projects. Experience has proven that clean ups and decommissioning can be much more cost-effective and reliable, if executed by a full service company. The SNC-Lavalin team offers a full range of services from preliminary (Phase I) site investigations, through to complete site remediation either as EPCM or turnkey. While they do not own a specific remediation technology, they can provide solutions or recommendations using the most appropriate methodology for the site. SNC-Lavalin services include, RIFS, RAP, risk assessment, site management and monitoring.
