Ozone Treatment System For Groundwater.
In many water supply wells, taste and odour problems are caused by excessive iron and manganese in groundwater. Roy Consultants Group uses a 100 U.S. gal./min. capacity ozone treatment system which oxidizes the iron and manganese to form precipitates which are then removed by filtration. The ozone treatment system contains two ozone generators. The ozone is drowned into a Venturi injector for mixing by means of a pressure drop across the Venturi throat. Some of the iron and manganese is oxidized immediately, and the remainder oxidizes during the 12 minutes of retention time in the retention tanks. The precipitates, and any excess ozone remaining, are subsequently retained on the dual media filter. The filter is backwashed periodically to remove the build-up of oxidized iron and manganese particles. Backwash water is also filtered through a 44 m filter to remove solids prior to discharge. This technology has shown to be successful for municipal water supply wells in New-Brunswick, Canada.

Peat Moss Filter Treatment System.
Roy Consultants Group has developed and installed Peat Moss Treatment Systems in New Brunswick to treat secondary landfill leachate, municipal wastewaters and industrial waste. Primary treatment occurs at the base of the cells through filtration. Secondary treatment occurs in the leachate pond through the use of mechanical aerators and a recirculating pump. Finally, tertiary treatment of leachate is provided by an artificial peat filter. Once treated, the leachate is distributed over the peat bed for polishing, which removes heavy metals and micro-nutrients. This system provides highly effective waste treatment at considerable cost savings compared to conventional treatment methods. Peat filters have the beneficial effect of reducing the BOD levels to almost nil and also to prevent shock loading to the receiving waters.

Constructed Wetlands.
Constructed Wetlands implementing Reed Beds are used to mineralize municipal sludge and control odour and contaminants. A Reed Bed is basically a conventional sludge drying bed planted with reed (Phragmites Communis). Unlike a conventional bed, the Reed Bed does not have to be scraped off before another layer of sludge is added. Sludge is applied to the Reed Bed every two weeks year-round for ten years. Over the life cycle of a Reed Bed, the initial sludge volume will be reduced from 95-98%, through drainage, evapo-transpiration, plant uptake, and microbial decomposition. The final product is a well-decomposed, stabilized, humus-like residue suitable for land application. This system provides highly effective sludge disposal at considerable cost savings compared to conventional methods. This system is also used for sewage treatment or as a receiving body of water for partially treated effluent, especially in Europe and the United States. This process is biotechnological in nature and adapts effectively to various climates, including Canada's geographic and climatic conditions. Monitoring is linked by a communication network to ensure the smooth operation of the technology.
