Company Overview

RPC is a contract research and development and technical services organization that focuses on innovative biotechnology in a number of industry sectors. Our work is performed with partners in Canada and abroad and draws strength from RPC's highly qualified staff, state-of-the-art equipment and modern laboratory and pilot plant facilities. Industry sectors include: Aquaculture, Environmental, Agri- Food, Forestry and Mining. In Aquaculture we have specialized in developing and offering services in fish health protection, including DNA based disease diagnostics, as well as in working with partners in the development and testing of vaccines and related therapeutants. Our Environmental, Agri-Food and Forestry work focuses on the development of 'biopesticides' and other low hazard products to replace controversial control agents in common use. Amongst our existing clients is a multinational supplier of chemical and specialty products which has a strategic interest in emerging biotechnological areas. Our Mining work has focused on the development of 'bioleach' technology for international clients interested in the recovery of valuable metals from ores that are difficult to treat by conventional means.

Our analytical laboratories specialize in environmental testing of organic, inorganic and microbiological parameters in a variety of matrices. Our state-of-the-art laboratories are well equipped with leading edge instrumentation and are staffed by highly skilled professionals. The laboratories follow a strict QA/QC program and are CAEAL/SCC accredited where applicable.

Our current biotechnology work involves the development of strategic business relationships with partners in Europe, Asia, South America, as well as in the USA and Canada.

We continue to be interested in the formation of technology development and transfer of alliances with domestic and international partners.

Products

  • A General Scan Using Gas Chromatography - Atomic Emission Detection (gc-aed).

RPC will be one of the first commercial labs in Canada to offer a general scan by GC-AED and confirmation by GC-MS. This powerful analytical tool will allow the client to identify a wide variety of contaminants using one test. For example, a general scan can semi-quantitatively identify pollutants such as: pesticides, explosives, hydrocarbons, PCBs, PCPs, phenols and organometallics. Coupled with a metal scan by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), this technology offers clients a very powerful tool in assessing the degree and type of pollutants present.

Applications where the GC-AED is particularly useful is assessing types and degree of contaminants include: dumpsites and landfills; military bases; pulp and paper mills; chemical plants; wood treatment facilities; refineries; thermal power plants.

In these applications, GC-AED coupled with ICP-MS is an alternative to spending tens of thousands of dollars at the front end of a site assessment/remediation project to get a chemical fingerprint of the site. The cost per sample for both analyses combined will be approximately $375 for soils and $350 for waters, although volume discounts may reduce these costs substantially.

  • Collets - Hand/Machine
  • Customized Pesticide Application Tactics.

Aerial application of pesticides is inevitably accompanied by drift. While excessive spray drift can lead to reduced efficacy and off-target environmental impact, properly designed application technology and spray tactics can improve efficacy while minimizing environmental burden.

Appropriate selection of atomizers, droplet spectrum, meteorological conditions and other application parameters can minimize environmental impact and optimize efficacy for any pest/crop situation. Computer modelling combined with precise field test measurements of drift and deposit are used to develop optimum spray application tactics.

  • Services Related To Indoor And Ambient Air Quality, Stack Emissions Testing, And Equipment Rentals.

RPC has performed both industrial and commercial air quality projects for over 25 years. Presently, RPC offers air quality services related to indoor and ambient air quality, stack emissions testing, and equipment rentals.

As 'Sick Building Syndrome' and environmental air quality situations arise more frequently, both employers and environmental consultants are realizing the need for more expertise in the area of air quality assessment. RPC's air quality staff, in consultation with the client, can help by providing a turn-key air quality assessment program.

This program consists of the following tasks: An initial conversation with our air quality experts to scope out the situation at hand; Development of the assessment program by RPC staff along with a cost estimate; Actual on-site monitoring work which can be performed by RPC or the client (RPC to supply the monitoring equipment); Analysis of the samples by RPC technicians, and a report detailing source of contamination and suggestions for remediation.
