Quw'utsun' Cultural & Conference Center
The Cowichan Native Village, situated in Duncan, British
Columbia, was established by Cowichan Tribes in 1987. Now a
major tourist attraction, the Centre focuses on Canada's First
Peoples, and allows the Cowichan First Nation to share their
culture through interpretive and entertainment programming, as
well as through art-work and craft products. Close to the
Trans-Canada Highway and Cowichan River, the Cowichan Native
Village features a range of facilities, including a restaurant,
craft, souvenir and gift shop, story centre, carvers workshop and
the Khowutzun Arts and Crafts Gallery.
The Khowutzun Arts and Crafts Gallery retails only high-quality,
hand-crafted Native art. Selections include baskets, drums,
jewellery, knits, original and limited edition prints, soapstone
sculptures and carvings, dolls, button blankets, books, and a
variety of wood carvings featuring Coastal Salish, Nuu Cha Nulth
(West Coast), and Kwagulth designs. The Gallery is considered to
be an excellent source for collectors.
