Pall Dynamics (PDL), a world leader in earthquake-resistant
design technology, pioneered the development of friction dampers
for seismic control of buildings. Pall friction dampers
significantly reduce the cost of construction while dramatically
increasing earthquake resistance.

Proof tests successfully completed on shake-tables at the
University of British Columbia in Vancouver and the University
of California at Berkeley showed structures with Pall friction
dampers remained damage-free even at five times the level of the
1985 Mexican earthquake. PDL has received the American Society
of Civil Engineers Research Prize (1983), the Canada Innovation
Award (1985) and the Canada Award for Business Excellence
(1987). Pall friction dampers have earned international
reputation for quality and performance.


Building codes in Canada and the United States call for friction
dampers. Pall friction dampers are suitable for seismic control
of new and retrofit of existing buildings. They have been used
in over 80 building projects in Canada, the United States, China
and India. Boeing Commercial Airplane Factory at Everett - the
world's largest building in volume, and Boeing Development
Center in Seattle are retrofitted with Pall friction dampers.
Boeing engineers saved more than $45 million by using this
technology. The City and County of San Francisco chose Pall
friction dampers for the seismic control of new Moscone West
Convention Center in San Francisco and saved US$2.25 million
compared to alternate viscous dampers. Their low cost and high
technical performance suggests wide application.

PDL is seeking to collaborate with structural engineers,
developers and government departments for export of dampers,
joint ventures and technology transfers.
