Old Roman Catholic Church - Latin Rite

The Old Roman Catholic Church, Latin Rite, has her origins in The Old Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Utrech, the Netherlands, 1711-1745, when for purely political reasons, the Archbishop of Utrech found it impossible to subscribe certain formularies, called the formularies of Pope Alexander VII. The content of the formulary is of no particular importance. The issue at hand was the matter of the blind obedience expected by the Vatican in such matters. This issue eventually caused a breach between the Roman Catholic Church and the Archbishop of Utrecht and his clergy, the latter group being know as The Old Roman Catholics.

In 1908 father Arnold H. Mathew, an English Roman Catholic Church, was consecrated by the Archbishop of Utrecht to be the first Archbishop for the Old Roman Catholics in Great Britain.

In 1914 the church expanded to North America. The faith of the Old Roman Catholic Church is identical to that of the Roman Catholic Church, her Orders and Sacraments being recognized by The Roman Catholic Church. The Old Roman Catholic Church while small in number, maintains effective ministries in communities in which she is established.
