Occupational Training And Assessment
Ergonomic Evaluation
An ergonomic evaluation is an effective prevention strategy that provides a comprehensive analysis of the work environment, be it office based or an industrial setting, with recommendations on how to maximize human performance while promoting the well being of the worker. An ergonomic evaluation will survey a workers symptoms, identify the essential tasks, assess for risk, identify controls and provide recommendations.
Workplace Health And Wellness
This wellness service offers employers a solution to the rising costs of treating ill and/or injured workers. These costs are manifested in absenteeism, decreased productivity, workers' compensation, medical claims, and the effects of these conditions on workers' quality of life. The majority of costs are associated with the high incidence of stress and physical injury in the workplace. These conditions can be prevented and treated by addressing occupational factors, working conditions, job dissatisfaction, and the risk status and health behaviors of workers. This service is therefore aimed at providing stressed or injured workers with self-management options and preventing those at risk from experiencing future negative health outcomes.
Disability Management
Occupational Concepts is the only facility in New Brunswick licensed to administer and interpret the Internationally supported Consensus Based Disability Management Audit. This audit tool examines the sixteen elements essential for an effective disability management program and provides companies with a detailed analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of their program. Based on audit results, companies have an opportunity to apply for International Certification of their Disability Management Program.
Functional Capacity Evaluations
This intensive, short-term evaluation follows a systemized approach to objectively measure a clients abilities related to musculoskeletal strength, endurance, speed and flexibility as well as the clients workday tolerance. Evaluations are completed over a one or a two-day period with the aim of measuring a clients general physical abilities or those specific to a particular job. The advantage of the two-day evaluation is that of comparison testing under distraction.
Case Management
A consultation and facilitation service that enables employers to develop claims management strategies for return to work with respect to an employers Duty to Accommodate.
Occupational Physiotherapy
This service, provided by a registered physiotherapist, combines musculoskeletal biomechanics, ergonomics and the injury process to provide effective onsite treatment based on the physical demands of the job relative to the clinical presentation of the worker. This service consists of assessing the worker in the workplace and providing treatment programs with an emphasis on self-management.
Job Analysis
This evaluation is an on-site analysis that enables the completion of a comprehensive profile of an employment opportunity. This analysis will provide information on the job qualifications, work schedule, essential job functions, physical demands, environmental conditions, temperaments and risk factors.
Vocational Evaluation
A vocational evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that enables the evaluator to formulate a precise job match by testing the clients aptitudes and interests. The evaluation includes a file review, an intake interview, aptitude testing, academic testing, interest testing and work samples. Job matching is completed using the results of the testing protocols and the work history. The results will also identify the clients present abilities and their potential to succeed with further academic training.
Gatb Evaluations
Occupational Concepts offers the General Aptitude Testing Battery by a certified GATB evaluator. This aptitude testing tool, normally a component of the vocational evaluation, can also be used as an employee pre-screening tool to ensure compatibility between the potential employee and the aptitudinal requirements as outlined in the National Occupational Classification Handbook.
Progressive Goal Attainment Program (pgap)
PGAP is a standardized 10-week activity mobilization program developed by the University Center for Research on Pain and Disability, tailored to meet the rehabilitation needs of individuals. PGAP is suitable for clients who are suffering from a persistent pain condition, and for whom pain symptoms and psychosocial factors are significant barriers to activity involvement. PGAP differs from traditional pain management programs with its focus on disability reduction as opposed to pain reduction. Our therapists have been trained and are certified in the delivery of this evidence based disability reduction program.
