Technology Profile:

MREL provides blasting expertise to the mining, quarrying, blasting and explosives industries throughout the world. Since 1973, MREL has provided practical solutions to blasting problems for hundreds of blasting operations worldwide.

MREL provides explosives research and testing services to a variety of Clients. These services are conveniently grouped into the following areas: Industrial Services, Defence Services, and Explosives Characterization Services.

MREL manufactures the world's most popular family of portable, high-speed, data recorders for recording the performance of explosives and blasting accessories/delays. These recorders are also used as portable data loggers to record vibrations, pressures, temperatures etc. All MREL recorders are provided with Advanced Analytical Software that makes the transfer of data to a computer, analysis, graphical presentation, and printing of the results simple point-and-click operations.

MREL manufactures the FIXOR, which is a binary flammable liquid- based explosive kit. It has been designed to complement and/or replace the use of purchased plastic explosives and block TNT as traditional demining and UXO explosive charges.

MREL manufactures two types of explosives-driven water disrupters for neutralizing bombs and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). These disrupters are in service in Canada and they are supplied with instructions for loading with water, sheet explosive and detonator. They can be deployed by robot or by hand.

MREL integrates two lines of high-speed digital video cameras into rugged, portable systems specifically for blasters. MREL is pleased to offer the Blaster's FastCam and Blaster's MotionMeter to the blasting industry. These integrated camera systems bridge the gap that has historically existed between the economy and resolution of high-speed film cameras, and the convenience of high-speed video cameras.

MREL has developed Blaster's MAS which is powerful and easy-to- use motion analysis software for Windows '95, '98, NT and 2000. It has been designed specifically for those researchers who would like to obtain quantitative information from their high- speed or regular-speed videos.
