government, historical societies, engineering, port authorities,
resource and construction industries worldwide. Founded in 1980,
the company's specialty is side scan sonar technology with
emphasis on marine geophysical surveys, hydrographic surveys,
visual inspection surveys on land, in the air and also under

McQuest Marine's research side designs modifies and manufactures
geophysical instrumentation and researches surveying methods and
techniques. Additionally, the company offers training courses in
engineering geophysics, image enhancement technology, navigation

McQuest has a complete range of acoustic, optical and seismic
equipment (both land and marine), including complete KLEIN Side
Scan Sonar systems; the positioning system; and the D.A.R.T.
(Deep Access Reconnaissance Television), a tethered surface
operated submersible, fitted with TV and still cameras and its
own illumination source. McQuest's own computer graphics system
specially designed for interpretation and clear presentation of
data. This application of techniques developed for land or
airborne surveys to the marine environment and the expert use of
acoustic, optic and seismic devices (singly or in combination,

and extensive capabilities including GIS capability. Recognized
as experts McQuest is a technical advisor to Transport Canada on
marine acoustic search techniques in aircraft accident
investigations.

Differential Global Positioning System (dgps)
There is the potential of fuel, oil and hazardous cargo leaking into a body of water which would cause an environmental disaster. A Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) can be used, along with a high resolution side scan sonar which produces an aerial photo-like image of the bottom, to conduct a search survey.
By these means, McQuest Marine Sciences can locate the lost ship or barge and conduct a video inspection to determine and minimize environmental risk.
