MARSH PEGS AND NETS LTD. is best known for the Marsh Flexible Goal Pegs used with great success in the National Hockey League. The Marsh Flexible Goal Peg is a deceptively simple but extremely effective goal anchoring system designed to prevent injury to hockey players.
Prior to 1980, countless injuries occurred when players collided with a hockey goal net held rigidly in place by metal posts. Attempts to find a solution to the problem were unsuccessful in that devices which addressed the safety aspect broke or released the net far too easily: players could push the net off its supports with little effort, causing numerous frustrating delays in the game.
In 1984, Fred Marsh invented and patented a peg that was sturdy enough to withstand game contact but was able to quickly release the net upon strong impact.
The design and material of the Marsh Pegs give them a flexibility which allows the net to move when jostled but not come off the pegs during regular play. The pegs will bend when the net is bumped and return to their original position. Upon strong impact, as when a player crashes into the net, the net will pop off the pegs preventing injury to the player. The net can be replaced in seconds.
In addition to the safety component there are other advantages:
Marsh Pegs are maintenance free. They will not freeze in and will not break. They are unaffected by changes in temperature.
Marsh Flexible Goal Pegs were adopted by the National Hockey League in 1991 and have been used by all NHL teams since that time. Most other North American leagues are now using them, and most arena construction specifies that Marsh Pegs be installed. Marsh Pegs have been approved by the International Ice Hockey Federation and are used by members of this association.
THE MARSH HOCKEY NET: The improved design of the Marsh Net results in a more stable net. In addition, the design eliminates sagging netting thereby reducing tripping and play stoppage caused by the puck lying on loose bottom netting. The innovative construction of the net allows the net protector to be pop riveted to the base of the frame, thus reducing repair time.
The Marsh Net provides more room behind the net, a popular feature with players and officials.

Fred Marsh, best known as the inventor of the Marsh Flexible Goal Peg, the goal anchoring system used by the National Hockey League and other professional leagues in North America, and approved by the International Ice Hockey Association, is now offering his services as an arena and ice-making consultant.
With over forty years experience in arena operation and ice-making, Fred saw a need for a safer goal anchoring system and a more stable net. The result was the Marsh Peg and the Marsh Net, as well as other innovations in arena equipment. In recent years, he has provided training to others through ice- making workshops and has helped others solve their arena and ice- making problems.
