Company Overview

KITOMER is the trademark of the chitosan marketed by Groupe RT. This firm has its roots in Rivire-au-Renard, a Gasp Peninsula village located on the shore of the gulf of St. Lawrence near Forillon National Park.

Marinard Lte. is a subsidiary of Groupe RT. Its primary mission is to process shrimp. In 1996, it set up its research and development division.

The research laboratory was set up in conjunction with the industrial centre. The main goal of this research facility is to exercise precise control over all stages of purification so as to obtain a top quality product: KITOMER chitosan. The purity of this chitosan makes it appropriate for use in pharmacology and the food industry.

Due to its proximity to the source of raw material, Groupe RT and its subsidiary, Marinard Lte, are North American industry leaders in the production of premium quality chitosan. The agreement we have concluded with our fishers gives us an excellent control over the quality of the raw material. Thus, the shrimp is processed rapidly and efficiently without being exposed to contaminants. The fresh crustacean shells undergo a chemical and physical extraction process. The first step towards the obtaining of chitosan is a deproteination and a mineral removal. This process will be followed by the deacetylation of the chitin (insoluble) to finally obtain the chitosan (soluble). KITOMER chitosan is available as flakes or powder.
