Major Products and Services:
The Manitoba Remote Sensing Centre (MRSC) conducts digital image processing of satellite data for resource studies, inventorying, and environmental monitoring. The Centre is also responsible for the operation of the Canadian World Crop Monitoring Program and conducts all the NOAA satellite data image processing for the Canadian Global Change Program. Other services and products include: consulting, research and development, education, technology transfer, provision of satellite imagery, thematic land cover maps, custom image analysis services, joint venture opportunities, and rental of equipment.
Desired Alliance with Other Firms:
The MRSC is interested in the growth and fostering of remote sensing and related aerospace industries in Manitoba. In this regard, the Centre makes equipment available and provides joint venture opportunities for industry and academic institutions who wish to work in this field. Co-operative project work is undertaken and brokerage services are provided for those wishing linkages with the Centre for mutual benefit.
Technology Expertise:
The MRSC has a highly skilled staff and expertise in digital image processing, consulting, project management, GIS, aerial photography, and most other types of specialized mapping aspects. The MRSC has operated for over 20 years and staff of the Centre can bring that operational production related experience to tasks at hand. Coupled with strong and varied educational backgrounds in geography, forestry, cartography, remote sensing, and business, the MRSC is able to provide services in remote sensing for solutions to many resource and environmental issues.
Products Developed:
Weekly NOAA satellite cloud-free image composites of the north half of North America for crop and global change assessments, detailed land use/land cover maps for Manitoba, land cover maps for all of Canada, Canada-wide NOAA daily satellite imagery dating back since 1987, and a wide assortment of other thematic maps, inventories and collections of satellite imagery from LANDSAT, SPOT, and others.
Products in Development:
Currently, the MRSC is working in the field of radar data development for purposes off assessing land use and resource inventories and to provide the necessary expertise in preparation for the launch of the Canadian RADARSAT satellite. Ongoing research is conducted in advanced digital image processing with the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing and the Centre for Earth Observation Science.
