MPB's Fiber optic test and measurement instruments. MPB Communications has developed a complete line of erbium-doped fiber broadband sources tailored to serve either as test instruments or transmitters in a number of applications in the field of DWDM technologies.
All the broadband sources in the EBS-series feature a typical power stability of 5 mdB / hr after proper warm-up. This remarkable stability means that frequent reference spectrum recording is unnecessary, a key advantage in a production environment. The EBS-7210 is a double-band broadband source. The reduced ripple of its high-power emission spectrum is ideally suited to test broadband passive components (such as AWGs and FBGs) since it allows loss measurements to be performed with a uniform, large dynamic range, hence equally precisely, over both the C and the L bands.
The EBS-4022 is a state-of-the-art broadband source offering an unsurpassed combination of high output power and spectral flatness. This combination makes this source the ideal broadband transmitter in local networking by spectral splicing or optical code-division multiple access.
The EBS-4015 / EFA and the EBS-3614 / EFA models are 2-in-1 versatile laboratory instruments that give you the flexibility to easily configure the broadband-source of the power-amplifier type of operation. The flat spectrum of the broadband source is especially designed to offer the quickest and most precise way of measuring the gain spectrum of a DWDM EDFA.
MPB's Fibre optic test and measurement instruments. The EFA-series of benchtop EDFAs are repackaged versions of the high-performance optical amplifiers found in MPB's repeaterless- link telecom equipment. These wall-plug units include preamplifiers with high gain and near-quantum-limited noise figure, as well as power amplifier models with saturated output powers up to +23 dBm: both C-band and L-band models, ultra-low- noise figure preamplifiers, wide range of power amplifiers (up to +23 dBm), and gain-flattened preamplifiers and power amplifiers.
Driven by the rapid increase in the demand for greater transmission capacity, DWDM has emerged as the key transmission technique. There is continuous pressure to increase the number of DWDM channels and this in turn calls for improved performance from the passive multiplexing components. As channel spacings decrease, narrower channel pass-bands demand improved filter characteristics beyond the capability of some conventional technologies. Fiber Bragg Gratings can produce very narrowband filters with almost square wavelength response functions together with low losses.
MPB offers a range of Bragg gratings including very high performance gratings suitable for DWDM terminal equipment and ADM.
The ILP-series of in-line fiber polarizers offer premium performance at an affordable price. The polarizers are formed from just one splice-free, single-mode optical fiber, maintaining losses at a minimum and maximizing physical integrity. Polarizers for various wavelengths are available in standard single-mode and polarization-maintaining fiber.
Optical Line Enhancing Equipment is used for single channel repeaterless links up to 400Km. The OLE equipment sub-rack is compatible with both European or North American equipment practices and transmission standards and is based on a plug-in- units (PIUs) construction. A range of PIUs is available to suit various capacity and span requirements and provide a future upgrade path. The plug-in modules also make sparing for on-site maintenance easy and cost effective. The OLE is powered from the standard -48V available from terminal stations and has both Craft Terminals and a Network Management system capable of monitoring and controlling all OLE elements in a system from a single PC terminal.
The PC-3 mechanical polarization controllers offer an economical and convenient means of controlling the optical state of polarization (SOP). By winding a specified number of loops of optical fiber around the 3 grooved, tiltable discs, a sequence of adjustable 1/4, 1/2 and 1/4 lambda waveplates are formed. Simply adjusting the tilt angle of the 3 discs then allows any arbitrary incoming SOP to be transformed into any other SOP. As a result of the very careful mechanical design of the PC-3 controllers, they exhibit the lowest polarization-dependent loss of any polarization control device available. Lowest polarization-dependent loss available (0.06 dB typ.) Economical and convenient.
The RM2 Raman Laser Modules produce distributed Raman Gain in the transmission fiber of single-channel or DWDM optical links. These modules are used to upgrade the performance of existing line amplified systems permitting increased spans between regenerative terminals, and / or an increase in DWDM channels. The module is available in several gain flattened versions and is added to the front end of the existing line amplifiers. No modification to the erbium amplifiers is required
MPB Communications offers Raman Fiber Lasers for use as high- power remote pump sources to increase capacity and/or span lengths of long-haul fiber-optic telecommunications links. The RRP-series Raman lasers deliver up to 1.5 W at 1240, 1455 or 1480 nm to produce distributed Raman gain or remotely pump passive EDFAs. Multiple telecom-qualified laser diodes pump an Yb-doped double-clad fiber laser which incorporates a patented P- doped fiber Raman converter for efficient conversion to the 1240- nm and 1450-1480-nm regions.
The WDM-series of gain blocks include low-noise -figure preamplifers and power amplifiers with saturated output powers up to 21 dBm. The series includes both C-band (1530 to 1565 nm) and L-band (1570 - 1600 nm) models and all amplifiers are gain flattened to better than 0.5 dB over their respective operational bands. In addition to the amplifying fiber and passive fiber-optic components, the gain blocks include the pump laser diodes and optional input, output and back-reflection monitor photodiodes. Standard amplifier designs can be readily modified to optimize amplifier performance in a different, customer-specified operational regime. The gain block package dimensions, fiber inputs and outputs and electrical pinouts can also be customized to meet individual customer requirements. Laser diode drivers and AGC are also available.
The YFL-series fiber lasers are highly-efficient CW Ytterbium fiber lasers delivering fiber-coupled output powers up to 7 W at a selectable wavelength in the 1050-1120 nm range. The lasers are pumped by multiple high-reliability, cooled 975-nm multi- mode laser diodes, ensuring long operational life even at high ambient temperatures. The all-fusion-spliced optical train eliminates the traditional concerns of keeping optics clean and cavity alignment sensitivity to temperature and mechanical vibrations. Built-in intelligence allows control and monitoring via an RS-232 port and a user-friendly graphical user interface (no additional circuitry is required). The YFL-series lasers are therefore dependable, easy-to-use sources of 1-m radiation for a variety of scientific and micro-machining applications.
