Products
Dimmers, Lighting Circuit
Fixtures, Lighting, Studio & Theatre
These incandescent fixtures (Luminaires) are higher powered
units (500W to 2000W) and include ellipsoidal spotlights,
fresnel spotlights, floodlights, follow spotlights available in
a variety of beam angles and intensities with beam control
accessories such as shutters, barn doors, irises, snoots,
colour filter holders, gobos and beam sharpening donuts.
Selection of the appropriate fixture for a facility depends on
the throw distance, area to be covered, and type of
production. Application engineering advice is provided on each
project.
Boxes, Junction, Electric
We manufacturer these devices known as hanging cord patch panels
and pigtail junction boxes. Their function is to allow
connection of lighting loads to portable or permanently
installed dimmers, and to connect lights to the power sources.
All include flexibe tails and male or female connectors. The
design allows flexibility of connection of loads, at modest
cost and reduces the required dimming capacity in smaller stage
and studio systems.
Lighting Grid
AlumiGrid is a pre-engineered, aluminum lighting
pipe grid which is installed over a stage, or in a video studio
or school dramatic arts room. The system has been developed to
support lights, power distribution, drapes and track, and to
stabilize scenery pieces with all spacings coordinated to ensure
proper operation of each part of the system. Of particular
importance is the relationship of lights to drapes, so that the
light beams are not blocked.
Stage Light Support
'LightArm' is a low cost coordinated lighting system for
elementary school stages. It consists of a light weight
aluminum support arm with wall mounted socket, to position 2
fresnel spotlights in front of the proscenium such that 4 lights
on 2 arms will cover the entire stage performing area with an
even wash of theatrical quality light. The assembly is portable
so that it can be taken down to avoid damage by gym activities.
An optional remote control dimmer is available.
Stage Drape System
'Stage*Surround' is a pre-engineered drape and track system for
multipurpose facilities such as school stages which also serve
as dramatic arts classrooms. The layout allows the black drapes
to surround the classroom area, in a traditional surround
characteristic of dramatic arts rooms. By moving the drapes on
the curved tracks, the blacks can be repositioned quickly for
stage presentation uses. The versatile system has also been
used with double proscenium stages, fronting on both the gym
and the cafeteria or atrium. A correspondingly versatile dimmer
and power distribution system has been developed to eliminate
unnecessary duplication of dimming capacity. The drape and
track system is manufactured in Ontario and installed by our
crews.
Intercom, Portable
These production intercoms are used by stage and studio staff to
communicate during rehearsals and productions. Units consist of
head sets, belt packs, connecting cables and wall outlets,
with a common LV power supply. Basic system can be expanded to
10 stations on the smallest power supply.
Drapes And Track
Theatrical drapes (black or coloured) are used to mask the
lighting equipment, supports, walls, and wing spaces, from the
view of the audience. These include main drapes, valance
drapes, legs, borders, travellers and backdrops. Seamless
cyclorama drapes are used for projection and to create sky
effects at the back of the stage or studio. Design, manufacture,
installation, and service, are provided by our firm and our
principal manufacturing contractor located in Toronto. Our
installations can be found in schools across Ontario, and in
cinemas, places of worship, and other assembly areas.
Services
Safety Inspections, Stage And Studio
'Stage Systems Audit' (SSA) is an annual facility inspection and
report covering the specialized equipment found in school
stages, drama rooms, and video studios. This service assists
the school board in complying with OH&SA requirements for these
special use areas. The service was developed because few
schools or school boards have staff sufficiently knowledgable
about this specialized equipment to do proper inspections.
Offered through Whitehead Lighting Consulting, an affiliate of
Lumitrol Ltd, all inspections are carried out by Bruce
Whitehead P.Eng., a professional with over 35 years experience
designing and constructing stage and studio facilities. He was
active on 3 CSA committees (chairing 2), and has written numerous articles on stafety and theatre technology for Lighting Magazine, Professional Lighting, and the STLD Journal (UK).
Safety Training
School and community theatre stage safety training for students, teachers and technicians, covering the safe handling of stage lights, ladders, work on catwalks, stage sets, drapes, rigging, etc. Ideally suited for the stage crew in secondary schools and drama teachers, custodians, and anyone else involved with supervision of students or the stage area.
