Lorbec Metals Ltd. is a dealer in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Established in 1977, we are located in Saint Hubert, Quebec on the south shore of Montreal. As a scrap dealer we perform the functions of separating, packaging and preparing material to specification for our customers. In 1989 we opened a trading office now located in Munster, Indiana (Lormet Trading Inc.). In 1992 we opened another yard and office in Flint, Michigan on the outskirts of Detroit (Lorbec Metals USA Ltd.). The lastest addition to the company, in August 1995, was a yard in Massena, New York (Massena Metal Inc.) with a sweat furnace and reverb furnace for the production of aluminum sows.

Services Provided

The services of each of our yards are split into three functions that overlap each other. One of the functions is in the servicing of local industrial accounts. The second function which stems out of the first, is the processing of metals in our yards for distribution to various foundries and smelters internationally. The third function is the brokering of material from suppliers to an end source. Our facilities allow us to take material, sort it and then process it through shears, shredders, balers, briquetters or furnaces, as per specifications given to us by our customers.

Material Purchased

The materials we purchase vary, based on market prices and demand by our customers. The majority of our business is in aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel and steel. We will also purchase almost any other type of metal as well as secondary metals that are already packaged and ready for re-sale.

Material Sold

The materials we sell vary, also based on market prices and demand of our customers. We usually package the material to various specifications based on customer needs. Packaging varies from drums, pallets, gaylord boxes to sacks, bales, briquettes, sows and loose material.

Geographic Marketing Activity

Located on the North American continent, most of our trade occurs in this region due to the relatively high demand for secondary metal products. Most of our non-ferrous exports are to the United States while our ferrous materials are usually sold in the vicinity of each yard due to transport costs. At the same time, we do trade off the continent. In the past, we have exported and/or imported from England, Germany, France, Australia, South Africa, India, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and China. We are looking at increasing our import/export business overseas in the near future.

ISO and other Standards

We are in the early stages of achieving ISO 9002 certification and hope to achieve this by 1998. With this, we expect to also achieve certification for QS9000, in compliance with North American Automotive Industry. Our dedication to quality is demonstrated by awards such as the Supplier Award For Outstanding Quality given to us by Reynolds Aluminum.
