The second largest medical biotechnological company in Quebec and one of the first ten largest in Canada, Les Laboratoires terna Inc. conducts research in molecular biology in order to develop and market innovative products on a worldwide scale by establishing strategic alliances with companies in the pharmaceutical, nutritional and cosmetic fields, at selected times in their development.
The activities of Laboratoires terna are divided in three divisions. The Biopharmaceutical Division performs R&D activities on angiogenesis inhibitors that can prevent the development of new blood vessels and for which an application can be found in some fifteen diseases such as solid tumour cancers, arthritis as well as certain ocular and dermatological diseases, such as psoriasis. terna has filed an Investigational New Drug application to the Health Protection Branch of Health Canada in order to begin Phase I/II clinical studies on an angiogenesis inhibiting product for three solid tumour cancers - breast, lung and prostate.
The Cosmetics Division develops, produces and markets natural products that help reduce the appearance of aging signs. This division of Les Laboratoires terna distributes its own trademarks in the specialized dermatological and aesthetics markets. The Nutritional Supplements Division develops, produces and markets natural products extracted from animal or marine biomass that can help maintain physiological homeostasis. These products are manufactured with the most recent techniques in cellular fractionation and molecular isolation and they are mainly available through health professionals.
The Cosmetics and Nutritional Supplements Divisions make more than 80% of their sales on a worldwide scale, thus contributing to terna's profitability since its foundation in 1991. The products manufactured by terna are marketed through a network of international specialized distributors located in America (6), Europe (3), South Africa (1), and Asia (3). The Company is continuing its international development by approaching distribution companies located in South America, Europe, Asia and Oceania.
