Les Composts du Qubec inc. has a mission: to become the leader in the fields of composting and development of organic matters as well as in the fabrication of specialised compost-based growing mixes. Les Composts du Qubec inc. has been working in the field of composting since 1979 and has now become the most important Canadian company specialising in treating urban organic wastes (grass clippings and leaves), industrial wastes (paper and agribusiness residues), and farming wastes (manures) through composting. It operates 3 composting sites, the main one located in Saint Henri, Quebec, nearly Quebec City.
Our Installations
Not only does Les Composts du Qubec have at its disposition several independent composting units capable of an annual production of up to 300 000 m3 of compost, but it uses specialised equipment for the production, bagging, and distribution of compost-based growing mixes. Also, a treatment system designed to deal with run-off from compost production has made it possible to return pure water to the environment. The different techniques the enterprise uses make it versatile enough to be able to identify, for each type of waste, an appropriate treatment at an optimal cost while still continuing to produce top quality products.
The Outaouais factory uses a new covered and automated composting process called 'robot-composting', which includes odour control through biofiltration. This first factory of its type is recognised as an innovative approach in the field of composting organic wastes.

The company remains open to partnerships and to strategic alliances which will help it to continue its mission and to remain a leader in the fields of composting, landspreading of organic matter on soil and production of specialised compost- based soils for horticulture.
Composting constitutes an organic waste management technique and an attractive alternative to conventional management techniques (landfilling, incineration). This method is recognized by the various levels of government as a preferred way of achieving the goal of 50 % waste reduction by 2000. There are many methods of composting and the usable technologies vary from low (piling and mechanical turning) to high (covered composting using reaction chambers and mechanical ventilation). The company uses these two levels of technology depending on a number of factors (geographical, climatic, technical, agronomic and economic). Composting methods will henceforth include leachate and odor management modes to maintain environmental quality. The company has acquired unique expertise in these two areas from managing composting sites in Quebec's climatic conditions. Composting is particularly suited to wet and highly fermentive organic wastes, as it allows transformation of agricultural, municipal, commercial and industrial wastes into agriculturally and horticulturally useful products.
