This organization has been a family owned and operated business, originally incorporated in 1953. Historically, the company manufactured doll clothes then changed to focus on baby products. Specifically, Ms. Susan Malinowski and Mr. Sam Perez developed and patented a reusable cloth diaper to offer new parents ecological and economical alternative to disposable products. Under the brand name 'Kushies', this product's achievements in comfort, fit, wear and durability were unmatched, making it instantly successful and recipient of numerous international acknowledgements including the Environmental Choice Program in Canada, the Environmentally Friendly Product Competition Gold Award from Hong Kong, Jaycettes and the National Parenting Center's Seal of Approval to name a few. Kushies has continued to expand and enhance the resuable cloth diaper to its current offering of three alternatives: Ultra Kushies, Classic Kushies and Diaper Basic. Today, Kushies Baby Products remains a market leader in the production of resusable cloth diapers.
Since the introduction of the reusable cloth diaper, Kushies Baby Products has so continued to expand into other product offerings to now be recognized as a manufacturer and distributor of a full line of baby products that are currently available in over thirty countries around the world and as 'Kushies' in the United States.
In 1996, with the assistance of the Canadian International Development Agency, the organization entered into a joint venture in China to bring 'Kushies' to this emerging country and capitalize on the significant opportunities this region offered. The joint venture presently operates a 1, 800 square metre manufacturing and distribution facility in Changzhou, Province of Jiangsu, China. While drawing predominantly on the local labour force, the Joint Venture is managed by Ray Perez, formerly Director of International Sales Kushies Baby Products in Canada.
The company continues to also manufacture and distribute health care/medical products under their 'Freestyle' line.
Presently, the company is privately owned and operated in Stoney Creek, Ontario by Sam Perez and Susan Malinowski.
