Knight Pisold Ltd. have managed and conducted numerous environmental impact assessments of mining developments throughout Canada, the United States and internationally. Their experience includes the coordination of Socioeconomic and Environmental Impact Statements for the B. C. Environmental Assessment Act (BCEAA), Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA), US Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), California Environmental Policy Act (CEPA) and the acquisition of all necessary permits, licenses and approvals.

Internationally they have experience with World Bank standards and environmental law in Turkey, Czech Republic, Peru, Argentina, Panama, Chile, Mexico and China. Knight Pisold Ltd. have developed considerable experience in the control of acid generation from waste rock and tailings disposal sites and have developed specialized knowledge in the treatment of gold mill effluents containing cyanide, barren bleed and complexed heavy metals.

For the power industry, Knight Pisold Ltd. completes hydrological and fisheries studies. Results from these studies are used to determine environmental impacts from and the necessary mitigation for the proposed hydroelectric project such as fishway installation, supplementary flow control and habitat replacement for government approval and permitting.

For numerous projects fisheries habitat assessments, riparian assessments, forest ecosystem network planning for wildlife, hydrogeomorphology, and restoration prescriptions are completed.

  • Extensive Water Quality Modelling And Literature Search To Determine, Defend And Recommend An Acceptable Discharge Scenario

An open pit mine is in the process of closing and needs to release water in excess of existing permit levels. In order to defend a scenario of additional discharge, a number of water quality models were created that incorporated existing water quality, projected waste rock runoff quality and treated tailings supernatant quality. An extensive literature search on the toxicity of a number of metals and physical parameters on aquatic life was completed. This provided background for the defence and recommendations for amended permit levels with respect to the projected resulting water quality.

  • Relocalisation De Neuf Paires D'ombles Tte Plate Pour Restaurer L'habitat De Poisson Dans Les Ruisseaux Voisins

  • Use Mine Plans And Environmental Information To Develop Reclamation Plans And Costs

Mine reclamation and closure planning should be incorporated early in the mine plan so that costs can be assessed and mine operations and waste storage can be conducted in a manner conductive to final reclamation. Early planning can often prevent or mitigate environmental problems before they start and can save money by gearing operations towards rather than counter to the closure plan. In the initial stages of mine development the potential mine plan schenarios will be reviewed along with the environmental baseline/environmental impact assessment. Based on this information reclamation options will be formulated. Costing will be done at this time to determine the most cost effective options which still provide for environmental protection.
