Janis Kravis, Architect
EXPERIENCE
Janis Kravis has been practising environmental architecture,
interior design, graphics and industrial design since 1961.
Janis was born in Riga, Latvia and received his early
education in Sweden. In 1950 he came to Canada and in
1959 graduated from the School of Architecture at the
University of Toronto.
Janis Kravis has contributed to a number of architectural
and design publications and has been involved in the field of
design education.
As chairman of the Interiors Committee of the Royal
Architectural Institute of Canada, Janis formed the
``Healthy Buildings Task Force``, assembling information
on the various factors affecting the built environment and
methods and procedures on how to reduce and eliminate the
negative influences. As chair of the ``Envirofest`` task
group of the Committee on The Environment of the Ontario
Association of Architects, Janis organized a number of
annual exhibitions of building products and furniture and
furnishings and services which may contribute to energy and
resource conservation, sustain ability and environmental
quality. Janis consults with industry and communities to
help them reduce their environmental impact and work
toward sustainability and restoration.
Janis has consulted on incorporating environmental
and sustainability principles as well as alternate energy and
waste treatment strategies for new residences at Sir
Sanford Fleming College, Peterborough, Ontario and for various
projects for Public Works Government Services Canada and Greater
Toronto Airport Authority.
