Rosell Institute was first located at OKA Agriculture Institute
and in 1962, its laboratories were installed in the building of
Rougier Inc., where it operates since then. As early as 1940,
Rosell Institute Inc. licensed two USA companies to develop its
sales of lactic culture and production of new dairy products,
yogurt in particular. More recently, Rosell has contracted
agencies for the sales of its products, primarily in France,
Australia, Korea, Japan, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Poland and
others. Manor achievements: Development of a vaccine for the
treatment of bovine mastitis, production of microbial cultures
for the manufacture of fermented milks, sour cream, cheese,
silages, legume-inoculants, probiotics for humans and animals,
introduction of yogurt in North America, improvements in
freeze-drying of lactic bacteria, intensive research related to
lactic and nitrogen fixing bacteria. 70% of its products are
exported. Major collaborators: Laval University, Research
Station Agriculture Canada, Food Research and Development
Centre (St-Hyacinthe, QC), National Research Council of Canada,
Quebec Research Station (Deschambault, QC).
