Port Hawkesbury, NS
Innovations Port Incorporated (I-PORT) is a new business located in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia that opened its doors in the spring of 2002. I-Port was created through individual, corporate and government investment to become a catalyst in the development of the knowledge economy in Atlantic Canada.
I-PORT is an e-business company that focuses on the storage of data. This market has developed in response to the need for secure and readily available back-up files to ensure business continuity and data recovery in today's political and economic climate. Businesses, government and individuals need to know that in the event of a technological failure, natural or man- made disaster, they will have uninterrupted access to essential corporate files and mission critical data.

The focus of I-PORT's operations is the IBM Storage Area Network (SAN). The SAN is basically a 'super server.' It can store the complete records of several government departments or corporate clients at once and has the potential to expand to meet increased demand for storage.
The hosting capabilities of the SAN help to create an ideal environment at I-PORT for the management and delivery of e- learning programs.
Currently, businesses and government departments are storing data outside the Atlantic Region and indeed outside of Canada. With the installation of the I-PORT SAN, the first of its kind in Atlantic Canada, this need can be met right here in Nova Scotia. The I-PORT SAN operates on high-speed fibre channel technology built on robust fibre access to the Internet. In addition to bringing a new line of e-business to Port Hawkesbury, the installation of the SAN has resulted in highspeed fibre connectivity at I-PORT that can enable the development of a cluster of business ventures at the site.
