Advanced solid modelling and simulation allow Indal Technologies to define and evaluate the interface parameters that control helicopter/ship integration.
Helicopter probes (main and tail) for securing in RAST (Recovery Assist Secure and Traverse) or ASIST (Aircraft Ship Integrated Secure and Traverse) rapid securing device (RSD), high speed light weight winches.
INDAL TECHNOLOGIES designs, manufactures, tests and supports customized, high efficiency handling systems used with both passive and active sonar applications. ASW, MCM, Variable Depth Sonar, Towed Line Array, Cable Fairings, Dipping Sonar, Mechanical Minesweeping Systems, High Speed Towing, Torpedo Decoy handling Systems.
Indal Technologies Inc. (ITI), through the acquisition and integration of Fathom Oceanology Limited in 1989, is recognized as an international leader in the design, development, manufacture and test of on-deck handling equipment and towed bodies for marine applications. These applications include, but are not limited to: variable depth sonar, towed line array, towed torpedo countermeasures, mine countermeasures towed systems, deployment and recovery of Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs).
The technology developed for military applications has been successfully applied into the commercial/scientific activities such as, oil exploration, mineral exploration, pollution monitoring, fisheries 'stock assessments', oceanographic and hydrographic data collections, etc. An important feature of an ITI's towing system is its simplicity of operation and thus ease of maintenance and training requirements. The tow systems described in this publication are being successfully used for continuous water sampling, oceanographic and hydrographic data collection at depths to 600 ft. and at speeds up to 10 knots.
It is particularly noteworthy that these systems, which are regarded by the oil industry as a working tool, have chalked up in excess of 10, 000 hours of sea time without the loss of a single towed body or cable. The ITI continuous data collections system is offered in two base models: Model 5-600 'Integrated' system and Model 5-680 'Split' system. Both models have their own particular advantages. The 'Integrated' system eliminates operator error damaging the system and forms a compact system all contained on a simple frame with the exception of the hydraulic power unit and controls.
The 'Split' system allows a more flexible approach to installation of system components; the launch frame and winch unit. It is also attractive if it is contemplated that the system may be moved between ships of varying deck heights. The simplicity of design has allowed the two basic systems to be reconfigured to suit specific customer applications and ship installation.
These variations include: Use of marine type crane with articulated boom from which a 'floating' saddle is attached for deployment and recovery of towed fish; Use of existing A-frames for deployment and recovery of towed fish; Increased winch drum storage capacity for deep tow systems (The ITI Deeptow II system is capable of towing a sidescan sonar to a depth of 6, 000 m for manganese nodule explorations); Undulating towed body; Thermistor chain; Tow cable fairing noses equipped with highly sensitive thermistors.
