Broadband Consulting Broadband - Our extensive expertise in strategic and technology planning and business case development, has evolved into a business decision support process and model that is especially effective in determining the costs and appropriate plan of action for the deployment of broadband and community networks. We consider the full range of technologies, are able to scale from community to national levels, predict sustainability, and predict where market forces will likely be directed and deployed. We have done research on broadband service markets that deal with the fundamental elements and economics of broadband services and address how they apply relative to the delivery of high speed Internet service to residential and business customers in currently unserved rural and remote areas. Broadband service is established in the context of business models that are differentiated on the basis of who is ultimately accountable for the delivery of high speed Internet service to end users in the geographic area being addressed. We have also examined the ability of wireless spectrum alternatives to provide broadband (and narrowband where possible) services to unserved rural and remote communities. Icegate has developed a software tool that will assist to determine the economic feasibility of projects that provide transport networks in support of broadband access to communities in Canada. The tool addresses such things as business case assessments, sustainability, community aggregation, market and revenue sizing, traffic sizing, transport network architectures and technology costs. Recent activities in the broadband area include session speaker at Smart City Summit 2003 in Ottawa, Canada; network design, business plans and supplier selection for broadband connectivity to a number of Canadian and USA communities; research reports that identify the current status and issues with commercialisation of broadband application research, commercial availability; and broadband service markets; business cases for providing broadband access to communities; and broadband infrastructure strategies for carriers.
