Honeywell Airframe Systems
Honeywell Airframe Systems, based in Mississauga, Ontario, is
an acknowledged leader in the specialized fields of electric power
conversion and distribution systems, electronic environmental
control systems, sensors and controls for space systems, missile
control actuation systems, ice protection/detection systems,
emergency locator transmitters, and support services/repair &
overhaul.
With approximately 1,100 highly-skilled employees and 330,000
square feet of modern design, manufacturing, testing and
support facilities, the company markets a diverse range of
aerospace products and services.
Over the last few years, Honeywell has recorded a number of
major achievements. In the ECS business, Honeywell has designed and manufactured integrated environmental control systems on commercial and military aircraft such as the C-17A, MD-11, MD-90, B777, and F-22. Honeywell also supplies the regional and business jet market with equipment on the Lear 45, Hawker Horizon, and the new Dornier Do728JET. Each of these programs
consists of complex, integrated subsystems, employing digital
technology and providing for a significant level of cockpit
automation to reduce flight crew workload.
In its electric power business, Honeywell was selected to supply
the power distribution system and the APU electric start system
for the next generation B737-500/600/700 aircraft. Boeing rates
Honeywell in the top five percent of all of its suppliers and in 1998 awarded Honeywell with its prestigious Supplier of the Year
award.
Representing a major achievement, Honeywell was also selected to
design, build, test, install and certify the complete electric power generation and distribution system for the deHavilland DASH 8-400 aircraft. This was the first instance of any major OEM outsourcing complete system responsibility for the electric power system.
Performance on this program contributed to the recent award of
the electric power system for the new Agusta AB-139 helicopter.
Honeywell is a supplier of products for space vehicles and
applications including the electric power system on the X-33
demonstrator vehicle and a variety of sensors for the International Space Station.

Products
Environmental Control Systems
Sensing Systems, Air Flow, Electronic
Supplied by themselves or as part of complete systems,
Honeywell's line of sensors are designed to perform in harsh
aircraft environments of high vibration, temperature extremes,
and fluid contamination. Honeywell will custom design a sensor
to meet customer needs in small batch or long production runs.
Transmitters, Emergency Locator
Honeywell's emergency locator transmitters, which are carried
aboard more than 90 percent of the world's commercial aircraft
on
transoceanic flights, are available in two models:
The RESCU 406, which operates on triple frequencies (121.5 /
243
/ 406 MHz) works in conjunction with the international search
and
rescue satellite system operated by COSPAS/SARSAT. The RESCU
406 is certified by Transport Canada, FAA, CAA(UK), LBA
(Germany), and COSPAS-SARSAT, and is a direct replacement for
the
RESCU 99
The RESCU 99, the industry standard in survival type ELTs for
over 25 years, is an analog transmitter operating at 121.5 and
243 MHz. Over 23,000 have been delivered and are carried by
major commercial airlines the world over.
Electric Power Conversion & Distribution Systems
Honeywell designs, develops, and manufactures complete
electric power conversion and generation systems for aircraft,
spacecraft, and land vehicles. Integrated systems include
controls, generators, converters, inverters, distribution boxes,
panels, and contactors.
Ice Protection/Detection Systems
1) Honeywell's ETIPS system is comprised of a controller and an
electro-thermal film that is bonded to aircraft wings. The
system provides uniform, regulated heat to the wing surface that
removes ice and prevents ice formation.
2) C/FIMS (Contaminant/Fluid Integrity Measurement System)
detects and provides information on the amount and condition of
ice and de-icing and anti-icing fluids on aircraft wings.
Missile Actuation Systems
Honeywell maintains capability to design, develop, fabricate, and
test missile actuation systems and works conjunction with
partners on international collaborative programs.
Window Heat Controls
Window Heat Controls, developed in conjunction with aircraft
window manufacturers, supply power to the imbedded heating
elements in the windscreen to prevent ice and condensation
formation. Honeywell's products are found on B747, B757, B767,
C-17, and ATR-42/72.
Sensors And Controls, Space Programs
Honeywell develops and manufactures gas sensors, moisture
sensors, temperature sensors, and fluid level sensors for
applications such as the International Space Station.
ASACa has responsibility for the electric power and actuation
systems for the NASA X-33 unmanned spacecraft, the demonstrator
for next generation space shuttle.
Services
Repair And Overhaul Services
