Hickey Construction Limited

Hickey Construction Limited was established in 1972 by Dominic
Hickey and is now owned and operated by his sons Michael and
Tony. Since its conception we have been involved in many fields
of work and have many years of experience. We have worked in the
construction field installing residential water and sewers,
basement excavations, land clearing and backfilling. Hickey
Construction has also worked with Environmental Companies
involved in hasardous waste cleanups within our town. During
the winter months we remove snow on contract.

Our main industry is with Forestry. Hickey Construction Limited
currently operates 24 hours a day, five days a week. We have two
mechanical harvesters and a forwarder, working in two shifts, to
harvest pulpwood, stud wood and sawlogs. We also purchase
pulpwood from local companies and along with our own material, we
sell to Abitibi Consolidated of Stephenville, NF. The stud wood
is sold to a sawmill on the Island and the sawlogs are sold to a
local sawmill. All wood is trucked to a storage site and wood
that is to be shipped is bundled and loaded on barges when they
arrive. All of our trucking is contracted out.

Also involved in Forestry is the building and maintenance of
access roads and bridges. This involves building roads using an
excavator, dozer and other necessary heavy equipment. During the
summer months grading and upgrading is continuous and in the
winter snow removal is also full time. Winter roads have to be
built the summer before they are required. Foresty is a year
round industry.
