railway finance, economics, and costing. The firm has conducted
feasibility studies, of short lines and branch line evaluations.
KPMG maintains proprietary rail cost models used for
transportation planning and feasibility study work. The Firm is
active in Railway policy and regualation, and has assisted the
federal government and provincial governments in areas such as
road versus rail, the role of rail intermodal, and the
competitive situation of Canadian versus U.S. railroads. KPMG has
also carried out engagements involving rail passenger transport
for urban transit and intercity travel, including high speed rail
