Our company has a very deep commitment to the future of Northern Ontario.
By opening the worlds largest producing structural panel board mill in Englehart, Grant has become a major force in Oriented Strand Board (OSB) production (we are also the most efficient consumer of wood in the industry). But while I am proud of what weve accomplished so far, I am even more excited about our future prospects.
Our corporate vision, and my personal one, is to become the safest, most efficient produce of OSB in the world. To do this we have embarked on a unique program of Continuous Improvement - continuous improvement in our woodland operations, in our plant efficiency, in the safety and health of our people and, most particularly, in the preservation of our environment.
We know that opportunities for improvement exist within every organization. I think the difference at Grant is that we put our words into action. For example, we explored the idea of using single pass, low temperature drying. Then, when we saw the potential benefits, we immediately took steps to employ that technology. This gave us an almost immediate improvement in product quality and plant efficiency. There are many similar stores and Im very proud of how our people have tackled these challenges.
The forest products industry has faced numerous economic and social challenges in recent years. Each time our people have risen to the occasion it has proved again that nothing can conquer real entrepreneurial spirt and a strong work ethic.
As we step into the future, I know this kind of teamwork, technology and tenacity will help Grant make the most of our many exciting new opportunities. Its all a matter of Continuous Improvement.
