NAV CAN Canada
Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments conducted for
the transfer of 750 air navigation sites, and 2,400 facilities to
the newly formed private corporation, Nav Canada. Golder
Associates was responsible for the management and completion of
assessing 50 percent of the sites across all regions on of
Canada, making use of personnel within 14 different Golder
offices. The first phase of this project, specifically Phase 1
ESAs and preliminary Phase II ESAs, was completed in 180 days.
The investigations were carried out in accordance with CSA
Standard Z768-94, with an addition review of the fuel storage
tank compliance. All Phase II programs were carried out in
accordance with standard engineering practice within the specific
region. The completed reports were subjected to legal and
technical peer review.
From the Golder Ottawa Office, Golder participated in a jointly
managed project. This project demonstrated our ability to
deliver quality and consistent products, at a competitive cost,
from a number of offices using qualified personnel holding
engineering association licenses and/or permits in all provinces
and territories. Many of the sites were remote and/or in the
Canadian north, thus requiring extensive logistical co-ordination
and planning.
Assessment of Rockcliffe Airbase LandsOttawa, Ontario
Project Manager to participate as part of a multi-disciplinary
team assembled to conduct an existing conditions assessment
related to potential redevelopment of the Rockcliffe site for
residential land use. Completed a review of subsurface
environmental investigation reports in terms of identifying
potential development constraints associated with soil and
groundwater conditions at the site. Presentation of recommended
actions for evaluating issues of potential environmental concern
including development of cost estimates to address these
concerns.
Department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada Ottawa,
Ontario
Managed the investigation of the West Isle Remediation Project, a
$3.3 million project sponsored by Indian and Northern Affairs
Canada, Environment Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard.
Developed a framework to facilitate risk identification,
assessment and remediation on similar Federal projects.
Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment - Ottawa,
Ontario
Conducted an independent review of environmental issues facing
Canada for the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment
(CCME). Developed a priority setting matrix within which the
CCME could articulate priorities on the short, medium and long
term.
Strathcona Heights Apartment - Ottawa, Ontario
Geotechnical investigation and subsequent inspection and testing
of mid-rise apartment building. Responsible for various aspects
of building foundings design as well as materials testing.
San Christobal HighwayDominican Republic
Materials consultant for two week period during construction of a
14 kilometre stretch of a four lane divided highway from Santo
Domingo to San Christobal in the Dominican Republic. Responsible
for setting up quality performance testing program at the
asphaltic concrete plant, initiating a compaction and core
testing program and trouble shooting for mix problems during
placement
Stone Arch Bridge - Pakenham, Ontario
Material evaluation and inspection and testing services during
rehabilitation of five span stone arch bridge constructed in
1901.
Golder Associates (Ottawa) Borehole Database Ottawa, Ontario
Involved with conceptualisation, implementation and ongoing
supervision of a borehole database for projects carried out
within the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton. Pertinent
information from boreholes dating from 1971 to present advanced
by the Ottawa office of Golder Associates are being
geo-referenced to a regional map database. The database can
subsequently viewed by staff using a windows based program.
Project carried out with ArcInfo and ArcView.
Communal/Commercial Water Supply Evaluation - Ontario
Communal water supply investigations for non-profit housing
developments in Elgin and Clayton, Ontario and time share
condominium development in Cobden, Ontario; responsible for
groundwater resource evaluation with respect to project specific
water supply requirements. Conducted hydrogeological assessment
of the Evergreen Spring Water Site in the Township of Sebastopol,
Ontario for Cott Beverages Ltd.; assessment included
characterization of geological setting, quantity, quality and age
of spring water and evaluation of potential sources of
contamination in the vicinity of the spring.
