From a small company operating out of his garage in the year 1952, Herbert Henry Robbins left Extrusion Machine Company Ltd, as a legacy for his three sons, Lawrence, Brian and Paul. Today the company has reached a production level of more than 1, 000 extrusion dies each month.
The small company Herbert Robbins started grew at a rapid pace, largely due to his devotion to quality production and customer service. As it grew he set up extrusion die manufacturing shops in England, France, Germany and Australia to continue to expand the operations he had started in his Toronto, Canada shop. The foreign shops were designed to alleviate waiting periods for extrusion die deliveries to his customers throughout the world.
During the 1970's, as communications improved and shipping became easier and faster, these foreign shops gradually closed and correspondingly enlarged and improved activities were developed in the Toronto, Canada shop.
In the 1980's, Extrusion Machine Company, Limited, changed its name to EXCO Technologies, Limited. Then in late 1986, the company became a public corporation, and at that time had over 200 employees. When EXCO went public it reorganized into several separate companies, each a distinct and self-sufficient profit center.
Three of these companies divisions manufacture extrusion dies for clientele all over the world, but EXCO's primary market is divided into 30% in Canada, 30% in the United States and 30% in Latin America, with the remaining 10% in the Far East.
EXCO manufactures over 1, 000 dies per month using the latest design machining technology. The majority of dies made are of the porthole variety. More than 90% of the die is CNC machined and/or E. D. M'd. The goal being, to eliminate the influence of the individual toolmaker, so that dies are repeatable and run consistently.
The quality system in place at EXCO has achieved ISO 9002 accreditation.
