TDHC is presently a statutory corporation without share capital. New legislation is being introduced to continue TDHC as an OBCA Corporation. The mandate is to provide district heating and cooling services to the City of Toronto, using the cleanest available fuels.
Today TDHC is one of North America's largest district energy networks, selling over 2.5 billion pounds of steam per year. It has never had an unplanned service interruption.
TDHC's uninterrupted system and overal quality of service has won it the IDEA (International District Energy Association) 1999 System of the Year Award.
System Size
TDHC's three heating plants can generate a total of 1.8 million pounds of steam per hour, while its new cooling plant has a projected capacity of 52, 000 tons of chilled water.
TDHC provides energy services to over 110 institutional, public and commerical customers.

Steam is produced at two central plants located in downtown Toronto and then piped through an 18 km underground piping system to customer buildings.
