Embedded Systems Solutions Inc.
Embedded Systems Solutions Overview
ESSI was established in 1994 to provide consulting and
professional services to service providers and fiber optics
equipment makers in the US and Canada. Since then the company
evolved into developing technology solutions and integrating
voice and data applications into wire line and wireless
networks.
ESSI has built in its portfolio a suite of innovative products
and services that meet the needs of small and medium
enterprises. These products are currently deployed in
customers networks, in particular satellite-based networks.
ESSIs mission is to continue to expand on its current product
and services suite while excelling in customer service and
solutions support.
The success of ESSI comes from our dedication to developing
products that are reliable, easy to integrate and provide total
protection for your data and vital systems. Backed by a team of
telecommunications experts, ESSI will remain at the forefront of
developing new products and the effective commercialization of
telecom products and services. Our management team has a depth
of understanding the needs of small network operators and
Internet users at every level.
History
In 1994, ESSI was engaged in the development of SONET/SDH add
drop multiplexers. The ESSI team of 50 engineers succeeded in
producing a product prototype in less than 12 months. The
product evolved rapidly and eventually, its intellectual
property was transferred to a major networking equipment
provider in the US.
In 1995, ESSI was contracted by Westinghouse Electric
Corporation to manage the system verification and the acceptance
testing of the MSAT communications ground segment. Over a
period of eighteen months, ESSI succeeded in completing the
acceptance testing for both the voice and packet data networks.
Thereafter, ESSI was retained to provide 24/7 technical support
to TMI Communications software engineers and network
operations. ESSI also aided TMI communications in setting up
their software development environment (VAX/VMS based) and help
the Network Operations team in setting up day-to-day operations
processes.
ESSI participated in the Iridium Network operations planning.
Our engineers designed, implemented, and tested the Iridium
gateway management system that controlled and managed all
Iridium gateways from a central location in the Washington, DC
area. The project was completed at a fraction of the cost that
was anticipated. ESSIs personnel had a major involvement in
the development and execution of Gateway operational readiness
scenarios. In fact, ESSIs engineers trained gateway operators
in Russia, Italy, India, and Chandler, AZ.
The ESSI team has been in the high capacity, digital radio
business in North America since 1977, with experience in 8 GHz,
90 Mb/s QPRS modulation, 64 QAM 4/6/11 GHz 140 Mb/s (6-38) GHz,
4E1/DS1 to STM-1/OC-3 radio and (4-7) GHz 512QAM 622 Mb/s STM-
4/OC-12 digital microwave system. Our team has engineered and
project managed more than 140 microwave routes in Canada, US,
Africa, Asia, South America and Europe. The ESSI team of
Systems Engineers have extensive network planning experience and
have worked with many network operators in providing network
plans to optimize transmission networks, both fiber and
microwave and combinations.

Competitive assessment
ESSI Satellite Services provides a wide range of consulting
services; from the development of the economic rationale for
launching a business venture to the development of a blue print
for building and operating a network successfully. These
consulting services include:
1.Technology and Architecture Evaluation identifies new
and emerging technology, assesses the economic and performance
advantages of deploying it, and then makes specific
recommendations designed to give you a competitive advantage.
2.Service Definition evaluates various market
characteristics such as service thresholds, economic indicators,
target population, projected rate of growth, geopolitical
issues, price-to-traffic ratio, then uses these findings to help
you determine resource requirements and pricing strategies.
3.Service Modeling identifies bandwidth requirements,
specifies the appropriate grade and quality of service, and
provides statistical models and parameters for individual
services.
4.Network Grade of Service Evaluation uses operational
measurements and/or analytical techniques and simulation to
assess network performance and then recommends ways to improve
it so you can enhance your competitive edge.
5.Satellite Network and Service Planning helps you
determine the most cost-effective architecture for your network,
identifies market opportunities for emerging services, and
estimate potential traffic so that you can maximize your network
resources and investment.
6.Network Economics identifies opportunities to optimize
your network while reducing the costs of switching, and
transport and also recommends additional services to enhance
revenue potentials.
Products and Solutions
Today, ESSI offers a totally integrated solution for two-way, IP-
based satellite communication. This turnkey solution, which is
currently deployed in numerous networks in Canada in the Oil and
Gas industry, enhances the traditional two-way Internet access
with a voice, Fax, Point-of-Sale, and remote video surveillance
offering. A Global Management System (GMS) augments this
product offering, whereas broadband satellite access routers,
deployed in the field, can be remotely monitored via a web-based
GMS Client application. This offers network administrators and
IT managers the ability to manage and control the multi-port
satellite router, remotely transparently to any user
intervention. In fact, statistics and events collected by the
GMS system can be used to troubleshoot and take corrective and
preventive actions prior to problem occurrence.
