Products
Broadband Networks For Distance Education And Telehealth Services
Services
Consulting Engineer - Communications-data Transmission
Many of the firms projects involving various media coaxial /
fibre optic cables, UTP, satellite and wireless have involved
data transmission, usually at relatively high speeds to support
video and / or high speed Internet access. An exception was the
regulatory specification and definition of an 800 MHz wireless,
slow speed, packet data system for nation-wide use in Malaysia.
Consulting Engineer - Buildings-communications
The firm has designed and implemented coaxial cable and UTP
broadband distribution systems in a number of Multiple Dwelling
Units (MDU), institutions and industrial facilities for LAN,
fast Internet and television service distribution.
Engineering And Project Management
The firm provides consulting system/design/integration and
project management services in telecommunications and
broadcasting specializing in Broadband System for voice, video
and data services using coaxial and/or fibre optics
cable/satellite or wireless transport. Consulting services are
also provided with respect to major applications of
telecommunications systems such as videoconferencing and
distance education. Development of working plans, competitive
qualification and selection of contractors and equipment
provided, supervision of installation, user training and
acceptance / proof-of-performance testing have been provided.
Information Highway
Services are the major product: CAD equipped to design wireless
wide area or point-to-point systems; CATV distribution systems;
fiber optic and or coaxial cable. The firm jointly developed,
through a CANARIE Inc. project, a system of S-band antennas and
an upconverter power amplifier and high power amplifier that
serve a range of multimedia service distribution applications,
both analogue and digital. This technology was utilized, along
with engineering and project management services from E B
Systems Limited, for implementation of the Manitoba Learning
Network (MLN) a $4.2M project including interactive video and
high speed data transmission to some 33 schools in rural
Manitoba via a 66-site wireless network. More recently a 30-site
Telehealth Network has been established, using satellite and
terrestrial transmission facilities, along with existing
hospital LANs, providing both IP (H.323) and ISDN (H.320)
videoconferencing, ultrasound and store-and-forward medical
imaging applications.
It - System Integration And Technology
A major component of the MB Telehealth Network was successful IP
videoconferencing network establishment on over twenty-five
hospital LANs, implementing requisite Quality of Service (QoS)
to specific terminal locations. This required working closely
with IT staff and resources in the hospitals.
Consulting Engineer - Communications-wire Line Transmission
In the standard North American telephone industry nomenclature,
this generally pertains to entrance cable designs for buildings,
institutions and large commercial enterprises. This is part of
the outside plant engineering function, in which one of the
principals has many years of experience.
Consulting Engineer - Other (specify)
The firm has undertaken a number of Management Consulting
assignments related to communications, including provision of
independent analysis and opinion on a major utilitys $150M
telecommunications budget, development of a business plan for a
prospective Teleport facility to serve a major city, a study on
telecommunications development strategies for a provincial
government and a survey of R&D for an agency of the federal
government and strategic analysis of PCN service opportunities
for cable television operators.
Consulting Engineer - Communications-microwave
The firms wireless work above 1 GHz qualifies as microwave
communications. Engineering design and implementation of both
point-to-point (PtP) and point-to-multipoint (PmP)
configurations has been undertaken, using either topographic
maps or with maps for manual design and digital terrain
elevation data to facilitate CAD, using the fourth generation
propagation / coverage software employed by the firm. While most
work has involved licenced bands, design of facilities using ISM
bands and not requiring licensure has also been undertaken.
Consulting Engineer - Communications-broadcasting
E B Systems Limited has prepared Industry Canada Licence
Applications and Engineering Briefs for a number of medium
power, Low Power and Very Low Power FM and TV broadcasting
facilities for locations in Canada and five regional Digital
MDS broadcasting systems in the provinces from British Columbia
to Ontario. Export work was completed in Europe, South America,
the Middle East and the Far East related to broadcasting
endeavours.
Consulting Engineer - Communications-telephone Systems
While one of the principals of the firm has considerable Outside
Plant design experience with a major telephone company, and both
principals were employed for both over 30 years cumulatively
with that company, the firms major telephony involvement has
been in the specification and selection, via RFP process, of
advanced electronic switches for major corporate clients,
including features such as voicemail and other enhanced features.
Consulting Engineer - Communications-other
Other communications consulting work has included the following:
Cable television system design coaxial, fibre optic and
hybrid fibre cable (HFC) architectures. The principals have been
responsible for system designs in every Canadian province,
totaling over 2,000 miles of plant. Current design is done using
CAD, with capabilities to employ either digital base maps or to
digitize existing analogue (printed) maps for incorporation in a
full digital design.
Wireless LANs using IEEE 802.11(a) and / or 802.11(b)
standards technology 902, 2450 and / or 5800 MHz in buildings
and institutes.
Institutional and commercial building LANs using coaxial,
fibre and / or UTP transmission media for Ethernet, Token Ring
or Token Passing technologies.
