Douglas Manufactured Homes Ltd., established in 1988, exports high quality 2x4 panelized homes from Vancouver, British Columbia.
2x4 and 2x6 wood panels and framing components form the basis of complete home package systems that can be quickly and efficiently constructed on site. In addition to houses, Douglas Homes manufactures duplexes, apartments, condominiums and small commercial buildings of exceptional quality and design.
Douglas Homes manufactures panelized housing components and trusses using only kiln dried #2 or Better Canadian SPF (Spruce/Pine/Fir) dimensional lumber. Floor joists and roof rafters are also precut. Douglas Homes numbers and colour-codes each building component for easy assembly on site.
Customers may choose from our selection of standard house plans or have Douglas Homes custom-build according to your plans and specifications. Advanced Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) software and state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment enables Douglas Homes to prepare and ship a typical 140 m2 (1, 500 ft2) complete home package in just five weeks from time of order. The basic house can be assembled to lock-up by four carpenters, using a crane, in only 4 to 6 days. To facilitate construction, a site supervisor can be provided to instruct the construction crew when building the first house.
The level of finish depends on each customer's needs and budget. Our Customer Service Representatives help each customer to choose from a wide variety of quality finishing materials including windows, doors, cabinets, flooring, interior and exterior wall finishing material, and roofing material. Douglas Homes also offers the patented Anti-Rakker earthquake protection device. Testing at the University of British Columbia proved that shear walls braced with the Anti-Rakker system last nearly three times longer then conventionally braced 2x4 walls in a major earthquake.
In September 1996, Mark T. Ando was honoured as a 1996 Emerging Award Finalist - Pacific Region by the Entrepreneur of the Year Institute and Douglas Homes earned further Recognition in November 1996 by receiving a B. C. Export Award from the British Columbia provincial government for Douglas Homes' excellence and innovation in marketing and exporting B. C. products.
