Diros Technology Inc. is a manufacturer of electromedical equipment since 1983, and was formed as a continuation of the radio frequency generator line of OWL Instruments, Ltd.
Diros Technology manufactures the OWL line of radio-frequency lesion generators, needle kits and accessories which are used by neurosurgeons and orthopaedic surgeons in the Operating Room. Specifically, these lesion generators produce a coagulating radio-frequency current for destroying nerve tissue and are used to selectively obliterate pain carrying nerve fibers. The technique is typically used for treating neuralgia (a form of chronic facial pain) and severe lower back and leg pain, as well as in certain brain operations.
The OWL RF Generators and specifically the Model URF-1 (Universal Radio Frequency System), has established a reputation for reliability and ease of use in neurological centres throughout the world. It can be used for all presently performed RF procedures including percutaneous cordotomy, trigeminal ganglionectomy, facet rhizotomy, thalamotomy, hypophysectomy and D. R. E. Z. In addition, Diros Technology supplies a full range of needle/electrode kits which can be used with the OWL RF Generators to perform the various RF procedures. Over 25 countries around the world have used the OWL RF Generators including England, Germany, France, India, Spain, Brazil, Korea, the United States and Canada, etc. The OWL RF products began selling in 1970 and now have an enviable record of reliability for nearly three decades.
Although OWL was not first out with a radio frequency lesion generator, they do hold the position of being the first out with an all solid state product, and first to incorporate the three essential functions used in many procedures-impedance measurement, stimulator, and RF lesion generator--in one instrument and therefore the name Universal RF Generator. We have been copied by the competition even to the extent of the colour scheme, but many impartial users feel ours is simpler to use and is functionally superior.
At present all products are CSA certified. In the very near future the OWL RF products will have the CE Mark which will be necessary to sell the products in the European Union of countries. In addition, Diros Technology is presently in the process of implementing procedures necessary for gaining ISO 9000 Quality System accreditation.
