COMPANY PROFILE Devel-Tech was incorporated in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, on January 9, 1986.

As Geo-Information Managers, the company provides a full range of integrated services in Geomatics and Information Management. These services consist of the following activities:

Devel-Tech is totally independent of any hardware, conversion, or other vendors in the disciplines of GIS, MIS, and Remote Sensing.

In order to leverage our Geomatics expertise into specific application areas or to integrate emerging technologies, Devel-Tech actively pursues cooperative partnerships with private industry organizations. DIGITAL MAPPING AND DATA CONVERSION Devel-Tech is an experienced industry leader in Digital Mapping and Data Conversion. Our experience covers a full range of data acquisition sources including hard copy map conversion, global positioning systems (GPS) and remote sensing. We have a proven record working with both public and private sector agencies including the Department of National Defense (DND), Geomatics Canada, the Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS), and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

REMOTE SENSING Since 1990, Devel-Tech has been actively involved in the field of data acquisition via Remote Sensing (RS), utilizing aerial photography and satellite imageries. Devel-Tech provides data acquisition from satellite imagery via the following media:

We offer consulting services to environmental and natural resource managers in the public and private sectors. These services are provided in data gathering and map updating for the resource industry (i. e. mining, agriculture, forestry, hydrology, environmental) by Remote Sensing; including acquisition of remote imagery, geo-referencing and geometric correction, ortho-rectification, classification and analysis, and porting to GIS environments and database implementation.

Use of RS and GIS technologies, in many cases, is the only realistic and cost effective method to collect and analyze basic land-based information, such as mineral potential and mine-development planning, land capability, soil erosion, forest fire and forest reserve management, and slope stability.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT Since 1992, Devel-Tech has been undertaking Research and Development projects aimed at applying advanced technologies to the Geomatics and Resource Management Sectors. These projects have been based upon the following themes:

Better resource management through the integration of optical and radar satellite imagery; for Agriculture, Forestry, Geology and Mining.

Image Processing and Analysis applications utilizing Artificial Intelligence (i. e. Neural Network and Fuzzy Logic).

DATA DISTRIBUTION Devel-Tech is an Imaging Network Partner for Space Imaging's CarterraTM Products. As part of this network, Devel-Tech provides access to the full range of Carterra image products.

We are particularly excited to announce the arrival of imagery from Space Imaging's IKONOS Satellite. IKONOS is the world's first commercial satellite capable of obtaining 1 meter panchromatic (black and white) and 4 meter multispectral (color) imagery.

A 'pan sharpened' product is also available that combines the spatial content of the 1m pan and the 4m multispectral data. IKONOS has a flexible image collection system that allows for efficient data collection over specific target areas.

Devel-Tech is a distributor of National Topographic Data Base and Canadian Road Network vector data products from Geomatics Canada.

The National Topographic Data Base (NTDB) is a digital data base developed by Geomatics Canada. It covers the entire Canadian landmass and contains the features normally found on topographic maps at the scales of 1: 50, 000 and 1: 250 000: hydrography, hypsography (contours), vegetation, the road network, the rail network, the electric power network, designated area, land form, wetlands, and manmade features. The Canadian Road Network (CRN) is the name of the national digital information base of Canada's road infrastructure. The CRN was created by extracting and reclassifying road infrastructure data from the National Topographic Data Base (NTDB). The CRN only contains structured data relating to roads, which means it omits the topographic details normally seen on maps. Additional attributes, such as road numbers and highway exit numbers, have been added. The CRN contains structured data that can be of use to shippers, courier companies, and emergency measure organizations among others.

• Image Segmentation Software

  This software is a utility that was developed to improve on current image analysis systems' ability to identify regions of commonality within an image. Many of the existing image classification methodologies do not account for the spatial distribution of common feature types, for example the uniform crop type that would grow within a given agricultural field. The image segmentation algorithm will split an image into coherent components based upon the intensity variation between neighboring pixels. The result is an image map defining the regions of more or less homogeneous values of an image property. The software is usually used in conjunction with typical image classification techniques that are being used for interpretation of image content, and have been found to improve in the overall classification and delineation of feature classes. The program can be utilized on both Radar and Optical imagery.
