Historical Background
Dalton Chemical Laboratories Inc., was initally established to bring the benefits of modern instrumentation and chemical expertise to the Chemistry Department at York University. Over the years, Dalton has been providing advice and consultation to many chemical, pharmaceutical and analytical establishments across North American chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. We have grown into a company that has expertise in synthetic organic and peptide chemistry, process development, scale-up and cGMP manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients.
Dalton has been producing fine chemicals on a custom basis for research and for chemical supply houses over the eighteen years (viz. Sigma, Aldrich, Fluka, ICN, BDH). As part of our business effort, we have identified and supplied many new reagents for biological and commercial synthetic purposes. We have specialized in oligo-RNA and DNA synthesis as it has been a unique opportunity for low-volume, high value-added fine chemical production with strong growth potential. More recently we have identified pharmaceutical impurity and analog synthesis and drug discovery as areas of growing demand. For this reason we have developed our contract research capabilities. In 1996 Dalton established a cGMP manufacturing operation for production of Bulk Pharmaceuticals as we anticipate strong growth in this portion of the business.

Sales Organization:
Dalton sells chemical products in bulk to distributors and catalogue sales organizations under OEM arrangements. Dalton also sells directly to end users via telemarketing and direct mail programs.
Production Laboratory, Equipment and Facilities:
DCL is capable of producing fine chemicals in multi-kilo batches using 20L and 30L glass reactors. A full range of lab scale equipment is available, including Parr hydrogenation (500ml) up to 80psi, liquid ammonia chemistries, inert atmosphere and high vacuum capabilities.
Dalton operates a cGMP production area in one of our synthetic laboratories, capable of producing multi-gram quantities of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients. Future expansion plans include a larger cGMP manufacturing facility to provide larger scales of drug grade materials.
Business Development
Dalton is seeking to increase our contract research and custom synthesis activities. The custom synthesis opportunities we are actively developing will be for pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical and biological products, both cGMP and non-cGMP. We will also develop new and innovative molecules for biological applications, both under contract as well as for direct sales and license.
Dalton is looking for research partners and organizations that will make use of Dalton expertise to further develop research objectives. Dalton is looking for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical contacts looking for a contract synthesis laboratory for the synthesis of small molecules.

Dalton has two new state-of-the-art cGMP manufacturing suites. We have also recently installed a pure steam generator, Finn Auqu water system and autoclave for our sterile filling capabilities. In addition to hand sterile filling of volitile componds, Dalton recently received a fully automated sterile filling line which can fill 10, 000 vials per hour. We also have two large synthetic chemistry laboratories and a large analytical labs complete with HPLC, CE, GC, FTIR, UV and NMR accessible facilities.
