Custom Industrial Automation, Inc., is a Canadian company
created to address the needs of the resource and advanced
manufacturing industries. Through the application of proven
engineering techniques, CIA develops innovative solutions by
combining advanced technologies with sound equipment design
principles.
CIA's engineering experience spans the disciplines of
mechanical, electrical, software and control systems. We are
experienced in all phases of equipment development projects
including conceptual studies, requirements definition, custom
engineering and system integration, prototype development,
project engineering and equipment commissioning. As a result of
successful system integration developments, CIA has established
several significant business areas outside of it's core
engineering services company.
In it's capacity as a system integrator, CIA developed an
instrument for performing remote, internal inspections of large
pressure vessels (Coke Drums) and has set up a subsidiary
corporation CIA Inspection to offer this capability as a
contract inspection service.
As part of this development, the need was identified for a
specialized, air transportable container to house the inspection
system during transit to refineries and then double as a site
office. This dual purpose container has proven very successful
and CIA is now offering this innovative design as a package
concept to customers.

Feasibility Studies
Custom Machine Design
Design and analysis of structures, mechanisms, electrical and
hydraulic actuators and control systems are performed. Layouts,
detailed drawings and bills of material are produced.
System Integration
CIA takes high technology sensors and automation components and
integrates them with proven packaging, positioners and
structures to suit rugged and hazardous environments
Project Management
Project scheduling, cost accounting and control, preparation of
purchase requisitions, evaluation of tenders, subcontractor
supervision, drawing update control, preparation of operating
and maintenance manuals and operator training are among the
services provided.
Prototype Development
All services can be combined in a single project to develop a
new approach to an existing problem. CIA manages a phased
program to develop and implement a customized system which has
maximum benefit at minimum development risk.
