The prosthetic and orthotic (P&O) industry's leading edge CAD/CAM developer, Clynch Technologies, Inc. (CTI), is in the final stages of development of its flagship product, Delta Systems III. The Calgary based company has been conducting research and development on its latest laser scanning CAD/CAM technology for nearly four years. This ambitious effort will result in the industry's first full body laser scanner capable of scanning body segments for all upper and lower extremity prosthetics and orthotics; spinal and cervical orthoses; and wheel chair seating.
CTI has proven the patented Delta Systems II technology in successfully fitting over 350 transtibial prostheses and knee orthoses. Patient testimonials praise the superior comfort and fit achieved with Delta Systems. Building on the success of Delta Systems II, CTI is now advancing the same technology to all areas of P&O.
In cooperation with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and the Alberta Research Council the prototype scanner has been completed and in operation for over one year. NRCC has granted CTI and exclusive license for the patented BIRIS tm laser scanners.
A further benefit of Delta Systems III is increased patient comfort during scanning. Unlike many scanning systems, CTI's full body scanner is non-intrusive. With scanners a comfortable distance from the body segment patient comfort is increased because the subject is not required to position himself or herself around the scanner.
CTI's motivation for building a full body scanner is to reduce the cost per application, by increasing the number of operations for which the scanner is suitable. With the completion of Delta Systems III CTI will achieve this objective. The result will mean that for the first time P&O practitioners will have the opportunity to employ a cost effective, user friendly, accurate, and leading edge CAD/CAM system.
